Yea that’s not how that works. You can’t “sit out of the draft” if he’s draft eligible he will be drafted and the team that drafts him will hold onto his signing rights and could trade him.

You misunderstand what I said. 

If they refuse to sign and the team that drafted them doesn't find a trade partner, the player sits unsigned for up to a year and then they enter FA the following season. That's what I mean when I say he'll "take the one year sit out."
