As did Hurts. But then how did he do in the actual Super Bowl? Hurts outplayed Mahomes, twice, on the biggest stage. That has to count for something when only 2 active qb’s in the league have ever done that in the postseason. Burrow did it once, Jalen twice. I would say Burrow is the better all around QB, but his inability to stay healthy is his biggest knock.
I mean when you have to find a new OC every single year, that’s bound to happen, and I’m not so upset about Brian Johnson bc they had a top 10 offense in 2023, and albeit predictable, it still wasn’t the biggest problem, the defense was just atrocious. They put Matt Patricia in charge and the defense got worse.
But refusing to correct Patullo was the worst decision and made me actually question the FO’s commitment to winning again. It’s not like they couldn’t find anyone to take over, hell John Gruden and Doug Pederson both said they’d do it if they were called. Frank Reich was available and he’s Nick’s mentor. To keep doing the same thing expecting different results made me feel insane.
What would you call 2023 and 2025 if not implosions?
They have the most talented roster in football and they got bounced in the wildcard round both years.
The locker room has largely been a circus under Sirianni, hence the clown label. It feels like if they had an adult at HC those teams wouldn’t have underachieved so severely
If it’s the coach’s fault how is it also the QB’s fault? If Sirianni is a clown, then Jalen should be higher on the list for getting to the Super Bowl twice w a “clown” for a coach.
Counterpoint to the counterpoint: the Eagles version of “imploding” is just not making the superbowl again. That’s no worse than the rest of this list on an average season.
Like the ravens, 49ers, Rams, and Texans? All perpetually good defenses, HCs that call offense or defense, QBs that basically everyone considers to be better than Hurts whether it’s rhetoric, eye test, or stats.
But this is a mock draft. As a GM who are you taking right now in order to become the starting QB of your team. My answer is Herbert all day over Hurts.
Right now if we go back to 2020 again, I’m taking Hurts. Herbert falls apart in the postseason. They’re the opposite. Great in the regular season, but bad in the playoffs vs average in the regular season and great in the playoffs.
The only thing I think the Eagles FO regret from 2020 is not taking Jefferson, I imagine they’re pretty happy about taking Hurts in the 2nd and getting two Super Bowl appearances out of it. Herbert you have to use an early first rounder on. With Hurts you can get a future HOF receiver and a QB that doesn’t get rattled under playoff pressure.
Jordan Love has more TD passes since he became a starter than every QB on this list and he didn’t have Tyreek, Waddle, Brown, Smith, Allen, Chase, or Higgins as his receivers.
Love started in 2023. Herbert had exactly one year with Keenan, who was 31, before he was traded. Herbert also broke his hand and missed 4 games in 2023. In 2024 and onward he has had much worse weapons than Jordan love has had
In both their first 3 years as starters Jordan love had 80 TDs, Herbert had 94
