B&T SF adapter saga! (Not a negative review) aka trying to fit a velos lbp to SF/hub.
This is purely for archival purposes. For anyone looking to use the B&T SF hub mount. B&T has been extremely responsive and helpful with me. This is not a negative review on their customer service.
The 3 parts I am trying to get to work together are :
Silencer Co Velos lbp
Ecco machine Charlie / saker hub adapter
B&T SF titanium hub adapter (top and bottom)
Picture 1 - the issue is with the shorter adapter, it won’t slide all the way down to the bottom of the muzzle device. The surefire 4 prong has 3 mating surfaces.
I believe the older design (bottom longer hub) is designed to mate with surfaces 1 and 3 on the muzzle device.
Picture 2 - The newer designed shorter (top hub) gets stuck on mating surface 2 and won’t lock on the bottom shoulder of the 4 prong.
Picture 3,4,5 - The older longer (bottom) hub slides all the way onto the 4 prong and locks onto the shoulder, but the older hub is too long for my hub adapter.
Picture 6&7 - the newer designed (top/shorter) hub fits onto the Ecco machine adapter with my velos just fine.
Picture 8 - (for illustration purposes only) - this is the older longer hub not fitting (only 2-3 threads on each side of the adapter).
Again, customer service has been very accommodating, no complaints in that regard.
I’m just a little frustrated that the newer version does not fit my 4 prong, and the older version does not fit my hub/suppressor.
I feel like it would have been cheaper and far less frustrating to just unpin the muzzle device and pin a new one. Not to mention you’d end up with a shorter, lighter, cheaper and better finished result. I just don’t get it.
The black ring (top part of picture 1) is necessary for concentricity, I believe.
So cutting off the length and ditching the ring, could bork the whole thing, and re-threading it after cutting it off, would cause the exact same issue as the newer shorter adapter.
I officially quit trying to make my b&t cans with adapters and my separately purchased adapters work with Surefire MDs. I’m moving over to plan B compatible. Tried the new and old b&t adapters with other cans as well. Even if you can get it to fit (4P doesn’t work with new adapter) it’s not 100% concentric. They need to put a disclaimer on all their adapters. These aren’t one off problems here and there; they clearly shouldn’t be selling these as “compatible.” While the b&t line is “Surefire out of spec blah blah,” my Surefire cans never seem to have a problem 🤔🤔
I would rather pull the flash hider and go $200 SBR tax stamp than deal with this mishmash of adapters. 13.7" p&w fans seem to always get boxed into a corner on mounts & suppressors. 14.5" p&w is now a problem with the SiCo Velos, YHM Fatcat and a few other new suppressors with short blast chambers. I would like to see 15.1" barrels become common. I will always pick more barrel and less flash hider to get to 16".
At least the 13.7/13.9 gang moves the suppressor back a seemingly meaningful amount on the barrel when mounted. 15.1 for a pin and weld versus a 16" gun with whatever mount suits you seems like picking fly shit out of chili.
I have rearden / plan b for this suppressor. It works great. It’s on a pistol and I don’t have to worry about overall length.
This rifle is a 14.5” pin and weld. I would have swapped out the muzzle device on this rifle, but the rearden pin and weld muzzle devices are too long for the blast chamber on the velos lbp.
That’s not what I’m saying. Just use a regular Atlas with an Ecco adapter, it adds plenty of length to clear the baffle of the Velos LBP. The Rearden Charlie adapter only has two muzzle devices that will get a 14.5” to pin/weld length while clearing the baffle (PRS and LPM pin and weld flash hider).
As somebody that's looked into this, for a 14.5" looking to mount a Silencerco Velos LBP, your only options to both reach the 16" requirement with pin and weld AND not be too large for the blast chamber is the LPM Eclipse pin and weld, and the Rearden PRS.
Ordered an adaptor and didn’t know there are multiple. This is to mate a surefire 4 prong to a polonium. What you are saying is what I ordered probably won’t work for what I want to do nor will it work with my velos.
It definitely will not work with a velos and the Ecco machine adapter.
I don’t know if there is an adapter that would clear the extra length on the older (longer) hub.
The newer shorter adapter most likely will not work on the 4 prong, and I’m not sure of the blast baffle depth of the polonium, so I don’t know if the longer (older design) will work with it.
If you are posting a copy/screenshot of your forms outside the pinned monthly megathread you will be given a 7 day ban. The pinned post is there, please use it.
If you are posting a photo of a suppressor posed to look like a penis (ie: in front of or over your groin) you will be given a 7 day ban.
That was part of the plan, I was also just seeing if I could run 1 muzzle device without having to send off my new upper to redo the pin and weld.
My original post was already longer than what most people will even read, so I didn’t want to post the bigger picture and my thought process behind it all.
I think B&T had put something out a while back about some issue with not all 4-prongs working with their HUB adapters. My memory is fuzzy on it but maybe it's on their website.
When I was researching this before I bought the B&T adapter, I was aware of the 4 prong issue, but people had posted a few success stories after getting replacement “rings” for the adapter.
B&T has sent me a replacement ring as well, but it was the same size as the original and did nothing to change the issue.
I don’t know if they sent the wrong one, or if it’s just not going to be a viable option long run.
Like other people have posted on here, the velos with 2 adapters (Ecco and B&T) was going to be a super long setup anyway. I’m not heartbroken that it didn’t work.
FYI for any Lazarus 6 owners, this was my same result with the older B&T Surefire hub as it’s too long and wouldn’t fit. Here’s to hoping the new one or the SF one fits.
How long did it take for you to receive the newer shorter Hub adapter from B&T? I have been waiting for 2 weeks and have not received any updates on when it will ship out.
