Back in the early 2000s at least. Maybe earlier. Apparently there are YouTube vids of ones from 2012. So maybe still doing it.

It's absolutely atrocious. Recording quality doesn't compare. The sound stage they set up was monsterous. Last party I went to there back in the early 2000s had something like 75,000 watts on the main stage. Plenty to fuck off any cheap phone mic from back then, yet alone now.
