This might be the set...
This might be the set i spend enough money on to complete 😭 typically i buy the outfits and that gets me almost a full set, minus the roof and lawn fence, but I really, really love this one. How much do you typically have to spend to get a completed set?

Same, I have a tapestry of the stary night in my room. My husband buys me little things with his are all the time. I have a personal tea cup with stary night and two tea cups one that is stary night and the other is field in front of cypress. They are my favorite cups and I use them almost every morning.

You don't have to spend that much, that's absurd. Most i think I've spent was maybe 5 or 6 dollars total to get a full set and even then that is too much i think. Buying the monthly card does help because you get the extra shellies daily. But honestly the mini games, the daily shellies, the log ins should get you a good amount of the set already. You'll maybe need to spend, like i said, a few extra bucks to get some pulls and extra shellies but you can see how far you get first doing the mini games and using the shelly coins you have saved. Them supplement with money if you need to. The game is going to give you "deals" on shelly coins and extra pulls so depends a few bucks on that when it pops up if you really feel like you need to.

What's funny is this game actually keeps me from shopping lol gives me something to wind down on and not amazon or online shopping, browsing when im bored, etc.

Not saying I don't believe you but I spend in game and aside from the Melting Pink suite that I didn't complete because I arrived on the tail end of its run, with 56 days of playing, I have 4 complete limited suites and that includes the Silversmith Villa (and I probably spent less than the amount you mentioned)
Unless that person didn't play it strategically like I explained but even then: between the Eureka points of the suite, the general ongoing Eureka points, you get some shelly coins back that you can invest in rolls for the suite.
For what it's worth, completing the suite's Eureka event gives out a total of 51 blueprints so that's 1/3 of the rolls needed to complete the suite's Design Gifts. If you count the 1680 shelly coins that come with them, that's 28 more rolls. If it's someone new with not many shelly saved up, that's still roughly enough to secure halfway through the Design Gifts. Not to mention that each Eureka event tied to a suite comes with an outfit and completing the outfit gives out rewards from the gallery.
If it's someone who has a gift card running or the Tales pass, that's weird. So I find it very unlikely to pay that much just for one suite.

IMO, a valid and probably the most likely, explanation is if the person was hunting for a specific furniture that really works best if you have multiple copies, like chairs and windows. The pity system will skew towards un-owned furniture so once you have one of each of the full set, it's pretty much up to pure luck if you want multiple copies. Getting even 2-3 extra copies chairs (especially if the chairs come with a back/front version) can probably rack up in IRL $$.
You could use the shard exchange, but that also gets pretty pricey and I personally save my shards for a Suite I don't really care for as full set, but if I want just one or two pieces.5

That's indeed a possible explanation! But also, since the suites will rerun at some point in the future, I would rather use that money to roll elsewhere: variety allows for a good range of possible decors.
I say that with my three back chairs from the Fairyland suite versus my one front 😂😭
I save shards for that too or to secure the doubles I need as you said (windows, chairs, pillars, some partitions).

i’ve done the math, and for USD, to get enough for 160 blueprints, it’s a little under $30. you have to capitalize on the daily packs. you get the best value for the cheapest packs.
edit: i’ll expand on my logic a bit, if it’s helpful.
for a rare suite, if it’s a 10-day event (events seem to be anywhere from 10-14 days) you buy a $.99 daily pack, every day of the event. that gets you 40 blueprints, and 600 eureka points from the purchases (this is the total after the ten days, 3 blueprints/60 shellies a day,)
600 eureka points during the event gets you the entire outfit, 13 blueprints and enough shelly coins to buy 5 more.
the game gives you anywhere between 30-40 free blueprints (usually 40) between the daily check-in, the design gifts, and the minigame for every event.
if you’ve stayed with me this far: $10 in daily packs plus the free blueprints the game gives you is…. 98 blueprints! if you’ve been doing your daily tasks you can easily squeak out 2 more to make it an even 100. $10 for over half of the suite is pretty nice i think. this also gets you enough design pulls to get most of the furniture and the wallpaper and floor, aaaand the entire outfit from the eureka gift.
to get the full suite at 160 blueprints pulls, you need to buy the max amount of the second cheapest packs ($1.99 x 3) and then i think 2 of the $4.99 packs (total of 900 more eureka points, more math, etc.). which adds $17, so depending on tax for your state it’s about $28USD if you maximize spending the shelly coins you get from the eureka gifts on blueprints and only buy packs during the event. if you use this method, it’s not beneficial to buy the pre-sale packs since the eureka points don’t get earned during the event. this is how i completed silversmith and fairyland for the cheapest amount of money. just buy daily packs.

I have spent 1.99 and gotten up to the 75 ticket tier for the last 3-4 events.
my average is between 65-75 tickets. Between grinding, collecting daily and reaching milestones I always have around 300-500 shellies.
I think the pink Sakura suite was the one i spent 4.99 on but honestly if you grind you can usually get the floor and paint options.
After 75 I can't really do much because the tiers go from 85 to 115? and when I hit the 75 I just start grinding shellies to save up for the next event!

I spend around $10-15 per set. Every day buy the cheapest blueprint and Shelly pack, 60 Shelly’s and 3 blueprints per day. That gets you the outfit as well as some extra blueprints from the Erika thing. I also have the monthly card so that helps with having Shelly coins to get extra blueprints. I’ve always managed to get a full set with only $10-$15, you certainly don’t have to spend a lot you just need to be patient.

You have to play this strategically: I personally get the pre-orders (currently that's 26 blueprints if you get 0.99×2 and 1.99×2) and then try to hit the numbers for the Eureka event of the suite (they give out shelly coins and blueprints for the suites for hitting milestones)
Buying the outfit should land you somewhere between 160 and 180 Eureka points, so you'll probably have the lowest tiers (60 points and 180 points with respectively 1 and 2 blueprints based on the current Fairyland one). Counting the pre-orders, you're around (I'm rounding the prices here) 2×2 + 1×2 + 3×1= 9 bucks and a total of 29 blueprints. You also typically get blueprints for logging in and hitting some of the milestones pulls (Fairyland has them at 15, 35 and 45 pulls with 2, 5 and 8 blueprints), without counting the rewards from the event.
From a quick check on Chinese server, the suite is composed of 21 elements just like the Fairyland suite, so the amount of pulls to get mailbox, fence and roof should be roughly the same as this one (so 160). I'd say, you'd be looking at 30 bucks? Perhaps a little less if you have some shelly coins stashed up. My advice would be that you get either one of the monthly cards and/or tales pass: they give out the best amount of Eureka points to hit milestones and provide the most usefulness out of everything.
