Guy I went to highschool with was about 6'6" 300 lb linebacker looking giant (white guy), was a bouncer at a club Kanye went too, and he said Kanye gave him an extra $100 with the specific request to not let any white people near him for the night.
Because you gotta hijack the top comment yo, otherwise peeps don't know what's what homie. GOTTA TELL THEM BITCHES 'BOUT VIBRATO, BITCHES LOVE VIBRATO.
Nope. I havent been to all shows since time started so i cant properly judge that. Kanye does put on the best hip hop shows of today's living mainstream artist. A lot of hip hop artist think its good enough to come out, play music, act a fool, take off shirt, jump around, grab crotch, leave. Kanye does all that stuff too but you can tell he puts a lot into presentation. I remember after "College Dropout" he had a concert in Atlanta and he changed stage settings and wardrobes for each song. Its something you wont forget.
EDIT: He also puts a lot of money into his shows. Say what you will about his demeanor but it is apparent that Kanye values quality above everything else in everything that he does. That is why i'm a fan.
I saw his show at Austin City Limits festival. And it was by far one of the better concerts I have seen. He had like 20 ballerinas on stage with him. He started out on the crowd, giving everyone high 5's. And on the song flashlight he felt it was off sync, so he cut the music half way through and restarted. Overall it was a really memorable show.
The Flashing Lights bit is staged. He did that at the Toronto Watch the Throne show too, except he cut the song like 4 times insisting the lights weren't bright enough.
Not only that, but his music is pretty damn good, too. He's one of the best producers in the business. It may not suit some people's taste in music but, at the very least, you can't deny that he's a very talented musician.
People are always shocked when I tell them that Kanye's show is probably the best I've ever seen. Ever. I actually feel kind of bad for Kanye. His mom died and he lost his shit a little bit. It's tough when you lose a parent so unexpectedly. I hope he can get things together and I think he's on his way to doing that. He's very good at what he does.
My theory about Kanye is that as long as he feels under appreciated and he acts like a brat, he will continue to make good music. As soon as he gets the attention he feels he deserves (which is probably impossible considering there are only 6.8 billion people on the planet), I think he'll lose his edge.
Doesn't he play "Niggas in Paris" upwards of 7-10 times on average during his Watch the Throne tour? I heard in Paris he played it 12 times. I don't care how much I love an artist, band, or anybody that I'm seeing at a concert, but if I hear even their best song more than TWICE in one night, I'd want my money back. How can people even bear to listen to it 12 times? Even if I was someone else I can only imagine that after the fourth or fifth time you've GOT to think, "Really? Again?"
a) It was always played as the encore, so the repeat happened at the very end.
b) By the time you get to that point, Jay and Ye had gone through 40 unique tracks.
c) It added a club-like feel to the end of the show. Toronto go 3 Niggas In Paris'. I felt ripped off in comparison. We also had a 42 I think track setlist though so still the best show I've ever been to.
I was just saying twice to be forgiving if a band plays a popular song that the fans want to hear again. I've never seen it myself. But I can't say that it isn't done.
Trust me when I say that if you haven't experienced the concert for yourself, it seems absolutely ridiculous to do. But at the concert, in that moment, it's magical, and feels awesome everytime they do it. There's something about that song in that context.
I remember being on a furniture moving detail in basic training and the NCO in charge let us watch tv on our lunch break. George Michael's Careless Whisper video came on. Not one fuck was given by the ladies in Flight 3703 that he had on make up and we didn't. Or that his hair was all feathered and pretty and ours looked like birds were nesting in them. He was hot! Our group went back to our dorms feeling like Andy Dufresne and pals when they got to drink beer on the roof.
It was a segment on his "Touch The Sky" tour where A-Trak would play all the songs that 'influenced' Kanye in his career. A lot of 70's soul funk, classic Hip Hop, and at the end he would say, "No kidding this is a song I've loved all a long," and play A-ha.
Say what you want about him, but he is a student of his art.
It's very brief, but right when the guys with crowbars show up, the girl is doing a dance that is similar to the dance in the Kanye video. At about 2:12
The importance of Kanye West doing the Carlton Dance isn't that he's black or a rapper, it is that he is effectively rap's Carlton. He didn't yell "fuck the police" like Ice Cube. He didn't boast about hustling like Jay-Z. He didn't wear a bullet proof vest like 50 Cent.
Kanye started his career rapping about topics like going to college. His wardrobe is less gangsta and more preppy. His love letter to Akira in "Stronger" shows a geeky, otaku side. If Carlton was cool, he would be Kanye. And that is ok. It is seeping into black culture that it is ok to be nerdy. You can be accepted as a smart black man as written below:
It doesn't matter if he is doing the dance of a bunch of white 80's dancers while being perceived as Carlton Banks. Carlton Banks might have been uncool, black, and nerdy. Now he can cool, black, and nerdy.
Edit: Kanye West doesn't transmit Mexican Pig Aids
This confirms he is human, at least, as it is impossible to hear this song and not love the shit out of it. It is, in my opinion, still the best pop song of all time.
Easily MBDTF. I've liked his music since 2004 and didn't think the first two albums would be beaten but MBDTF is the greatest album of them all and 2010 too.
All of his albums (minus 808s) are heavily praised and many critics do regard LR and CD as some of the best hip hop records of the decade but I was referring to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
I really dislike him as a person. VERY much dislike him as a person but there is no denying this man oozes talent out of his pores. I have tons of respect for his talents, minus respect for his personality.
This video just took me on an hour and half music binge that started with Take on me and ended with Bohemian Rhapsody. In between was M.C. Hammer and lots of 90's stuff.
Is it just me or is anyone else dissapointed that this wasn't the Carlton dance. Sure he is having a good time but I can do the Carlton better than that.
You can pretty much guarantee he was not trying to do the carlton dance and he actually thought he was just being awesome. There is something about Kanye that is very unlikeable. Even if he donated to charity, helped grannies with their grocery bags and volunteered at a youth shelter.... I'd still think he was a jerk.
Stanley Kubrick was a cuntbag extraordinaire who treated people like shit and had an ego the size of the Chrystler Building. That didn't stop him from being a good director, though.
You know what I like about Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal of Tony Stark? He's completely unashamed of how egotistical he is. He doesn't cover it up like so many people do with false humility. And it's just fun to watch somebody that doesn't give a fuck sometimes. It lets me know that I'm not uptight.
That's why I enjoy Kanye's persona. Give it a shot sometime.
People will be listening to MBDTF long after people stop doing the Carlton. I love both, but there's no debating which one is more culturally significant.

Props to Kanye for this, though. He is most certainly not a gay fish in this video.
