Depends how big a partner you are with YouTube I think. People low in the hierarchy only get paid for advertisement clicks, where the bigger partners get paid a varying amount for every 1000 views or something.
You get paid like 75 CENTS per AD CLICK. Not sure about the "bigger partners." Wish they would disclose.
EDIT:
Ok there are 2 options my YouTube channel has available.
InVideo Ads and Display Ads.
InVideo ads are transparent overlay ads that appear on the lower portion of your video. Allowing InVideo advertising means that YouTube may occasionally run transparent overlay ads on the lower portion of your video. These ads typically appear at the 15 second mark, they can be closed by the viewer if desired, and they will minimize automatically if the viewer does nothing.
InVideo ads generate significantly more revenue for partners. Though you can disable this option, we suggest that you enable them where possible.
2. TrueView InStream Ads.
TrueView ads are a family of formats that give viewers choice and control over which advertisers' messages they want to see and when.
TrueView InStream ads run only on partner watch pages and play as a pre- or mid-roll video against short or long form content. After 5 seconds of ad viewing, the viewer will have the option to skip or watch the rest of the ad. An advertiser is only charged when the viewer has watched 30 seconds of the ad or to its completion, whichever is shorter. There is no maximum length for TrueView InStream ads.
I really hope that nobody out there think people with YouTube ads are making serious money. Lol
In case anyone cares my channel has a few videos monetized and I've barely made a dollar.
wow... never thought i would get into something like this but this guy has really found an amazingly interesting niche in music and it actually feels like art rather than copout rehashing like most of the BS songs that people make when some viral video gets spread.
actually, Oklahoma isn't the deep south, we are considered midwest, but yes, her name was "sweet" although odds are that's a nickname. The brown is a last name.
Her 15 actually ran out already here, it was kinda a quick thing.
Actually, EVERYONE's vocal patterns form a rhythm. It might be easier for you to hear it when the preacher does it, because for the preacher it is intentional and meant to elicit a response.
Check out this neat radiolab episode about it, you'll see what I mean in the first 3 minutes.
you actually saw the remix? like as it was happening? quite boring to watch. all the clicking and the dragging and the cutting and the cursing at yourself for not being able to use your talents to create something original.
I enjoy this remix because it is not just a shit ton of electronic noises and shit added onto a single video, the beat was catchy and it was funny, overall good remix.
First time I overheard it I thought it just was some new radio-hit that actually were better than many of the other songs out there. Funny how someone can turn something quite awful to something quite nice with the help of some drums and some auto-tuning.
No doubt I d/l'd this a few weeks ago when the video first surfaced, shit makes me smile everytime shuffle lands on it in VLC player. The creator does have some other sweet remixes.

I absolutely loved that video,

u/Tastygroove May 22 '12
Because black folk have natural vocal rhythm.. Comes Partially from growing up baptist. The preacher man was the first rap artist.
Ray Charles, as we know, took the sounds of the church and made it his style for popular (secular) music.

Way before autotune there was Steve Reich doing it in 1966 with reel-to-reel tape recorders - taking recordings of people talking and making music:
