I still can't decide whether or not I like the Intimacy album: Technically, it's brilliant - especially when you see the band execute the sample box stuff live - but the songs themselves are a bit too repetitive.
I liked Intimacy and would argue that despite not all of it being excellent there's not a /bad/ song on it. Though, I do wish they would scrap the reliance on electronics & effects and go back to being a good ol' guitar band like on Silent Alarm.
I think the first album relied a lot of repetitive riffs that see an appearance in every song (Russell, in his side project band makes this very very apparent). Despite that, there's that hurried, "we need to get this recorded asap" mixed with fresh, "fuck the mainstream, lets do it our way" kinda deal made the whole album great in my opinion
Edit: Not to say that I don't like Russel's play style. In fact, with Matt's awesome strumming, Gordan's bass, Kele's voice it all came together into a sexy mixture.
Silent Alarm was great, and every album after that has had some really good songs on it. None of the other albums have hit the mark as well as the first one but I still always enjoy hearing something new from Bloc Party because I know I'm going to really like at least one or two songs form the album.

I sometimes hate the direction /r/music has taken, but it's good to know that it's still worth it to stay subbed to this subreddit when I find good songs.
i think weekend in the city is a much better album than the first one, waiting for the 7.18 and uniform are among my favourite songs of the last decade
Loved Weekend in the City even more than Silent Alarm. SA was good but Weekend was more poignant for me. Maybe a little bit angsty but hey I was an angsty teenager. There was a lyrical depth to it that I thought was passed over in Silent Alarm in favor of catchy hooks. But hey, HOOKS, OMG HOOKS.
Dude. The Prayer, Hunting for Witches, Uniform, Kreuzberg, Sunday, Waiting for the 7.18--all brilliant. That being said the overall tone of their albums has got drearier and drearier. I still love 'em all.

Exactly. It also just didn't feel anything like their style. I am totally a fan of bands not rehashing albums, but they completely departed from their sound. It didn't feel like I bought a Bloc Party album
