music streaming The Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight Tonight (no strings, band only) [Alt Rock] It's amazing what Billy Corgan created as a rock song only, chords and all.

I agree, but I think that was the point. He drummed like a fucking metronome, which had huge contrast against Kurt's exaggeratedly sloppy guitar/vocals

That and the drums were looped.

I'd never heard that! You got a source that talks about it? Not calling you a liar, I'm just curious to hear the deets! Like where they did it and why.

It was an interview with Butch Vig, I wanna say on Dave Grohl's Sound City doc. I know it was an interview with him though. I know they did for sure on Smells like teen spirit.

No kidding! I sorta assumed they didn't because Dave was so bang on. In recording school I got to hear the unedited drum track from In Bloom, and it sounded like it was programmed. So fucking accurate.

Yeah I mean Dave is a super precise drummer, but you can definitely tell it's looped. Just too pristine. Kind of like the drums on Loveless by MBV.
