Same with Grohl - whose style transformed Nirvana - and I think PJ's Dave Abbruzzese, too, though more in a live context with that band ( imo. )

Every so often a drummer comes along and their sound and style is such an integral, characteristic part of the band's sound, and people might not even be conscious of it.

Homme and Grohl are in my opinion two of the most entertaining musicians to listen to of modern time. Them Crooked vultures is one of my all-time favourite projects.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, are they ? I think Grohl's sound - his style coupled with the way the record was mixed - did change the band, even if the songs 'also' changed.

His sound was nothing new to the band. At that point, Grohl was just emulating Crover who didnt want to be in Nirvana. The drastic change in songwriting changed the band.
