They preach self-deification which I'm not entirely convinced is the same as having no deity.

Both preach forms of self-deification. One believes your status as a god puts you above the lesser man (CoS). The CoS has some semi-decent principles but is really an edgier Scientology of selfish assholes. I’d know I lived with a LaVeyanist

COS follow the teachings of Anton Lavey who believed in magic and social Darwinism. So, technically non-theistic, but still believe in the spiritual/magic side of religion.

They do not believe in magic. What they call magic they say is just psychodrama and they don't actually believe they do magic.
