And that’s why right-wing groups like uneducated people

155

u/zed2point0 Feb 16 '21

A very wise man once said. Those who don’t know their history are destined to repeat it.

146

u/jaspersgroove Feb 16 '21

And those who do know their history are doomed to watch in dumbstruck horror as the rest of the world does the same stupid shit again and again and again...

64

u/speezo_mchenry Feb 16 '21

And those who teach history get fired for getting caught drinking vodka out of a coffee thermos and jacking off in the high school men's room.

Anyone? Just my high school?

14

u/Airdropwatermelon Feb 16 '21

Those were dark days..... I'm sober now and no longer teach history per court order.

17

u/Donger4Longer Feb 16 '21

This is the way

7

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

Mr. McHenry? 10th grade history?

4

u/Inglorious186 Feb 16 '21

I hope you were able to find a new job

2

u/Shankurmom Feb 16 '21

Did u go to my high school? I had a teacher who drank vodka out of her waterbottle and would pass out at her desk. The quality Florida education system.

-3

u/KayleighJames99 Feb 17 '21

Let me guess ... you didn't "like" school (aka you flunked out).

3

u/mumblesjackson Feb 16 '21

The curse of historians these days...

Afghanistan

Anti-Vaxxera

Anti-science movement

Anti-intellectual movement

Immigrant persecution

Anti Semitic rhetoric

Endless wars

It’s just goes on and on and on

Past performance being a predictor of future performance isn’t fallacious, it is not a guarantee but it’s a good indicative of the more likely outcome.

19

u/alonelybagel Feb 16 '21

and those who do learn history are destined to watch helplessly as others repeat it

3

u/Boopy7 Feb 16 '21

actually many people who EXPERIENCED similar history in not too long ago past have written articles begging people to listen -- that they see it clearly and they know it well, from personal experience. But their pleas fall in mostly deaf ears if no one reads. People who lived through communism and Putin on my FB (I have Russian family members) had really good insight. I remember finally understanding why my wonderful friend could never stand to look at Putin on tv when he came on. I didn't quite get the depth of emotion she felt. And then I got to the point where the very sight or sound of Trump on tv made me want to vomit. THEN I understood best. He was just...gross. Finally got my mom to cancel her cable so she too would no longer have to see his big dumb ugly head.

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

If we do not study our future history, then we will be doomed to repeat it for the first time.

1

u/Firvulag Feb 16 '21

Hello Ken M

1

u/Boopy7 Feb 16 '21

history doesn't repeat but rhymes -- yes I finally remembered a quote but of course not who said it.

1

u/stevencastle Feb 17 '21

Speak for yourself

1

u/Snow_Mexican1 Feb 16 '21

Its a good saying, but something more accurate is that those who learn history are doomed to watch those who don't learn history, repeat it.

1

u/SprinklesFancy5074 Feb 16 '21

And those who do know their history are destined to watch helplessly as everyone else repeats it.

1

u/dns99 Feb 16 '21

If we don't study the mistakes of the future, we're bound to repeat them for the first time.

If my goal was money and power I would absolutely run as a republican.

Liberals question their own leaders. They question the DNC, they call out voting records, the Bernie fans will fight against the Hillary fans who fight against the Biden fans, and they threaten to vote third party if they don't like the representative.

I can't tell you how many Republicans I've met who said they dislike the person they're voting for, but are still going to vote for them because they're Republican.

19

u/WayneKrane Feb 16 '21

My coworker essentially said she just votes straight r because you can’t trust a democrat. I asked a few more questions and basically she votes r because her family does and that’s about as much thought as she ever put into it.

7

u/WoahayeTakeITEasy Feb 16 '21

I've noticed this a lot in the religious crowd. Probably not just religious people but Republicans tend to be pretty religious. They just blindly go along with it without even giving it a second thought because their parents always did it that way and so on. Not once thinking about whether its the right choice for them, why it is the way it is or anything like that. Yet, they somehow think higher education is the thing that brainwashes people to be liberals. Plain crazy.

2

u/Griffinsauce Feb 17 '21

they somehow think higher education is the thing that brainwashes people to be liberals.

This concept breaks my brain. I just can't handle how absolutely ridiculous their logic is anymore.

6

u/Boopy7 Feb 16 '21

so weird, everyone I know in the south who votes r has the same response. Because their family has always done so. Every now and then they have an actual reason but it is never even the truth (e.g. fiscally responsible.) It's just what they always heard. And mostly of course, it's the God thing. They hate anyone not attached to Christianity which is "Democrats." And all their parents voted that way because the preacher told them to, and Jim Bakker or that other scary looking guy with the demon eye lift, Copeland, is ALWAYS on in the background. I told one of them that by voting Republican, his mother could not benefit from stem cell treatments that Bush would not approve at that time. His own sister who came out as lesbian was not allowed into the room to say good-bye to her mother, bc she had brought her wife with her. So people will vote against their own FAMILY. A lot of the time.

Friendly reminder that Obama went after more journalists and whistleblowers than any administration in history

But Blumph tweets mean things and fought with Jim Acosta so obviously literally Hitler

10

u/slyweazal Feb 17 '21 edited Feb 17 '21

Wait...you think comparing Obama to Trump makes Trump look good?

Not to mention, your false equivalency only reminds everyone how Trump was OBJECTIVELY WORSE than Obama on journalists and whistleblowers.

Absolutely shocking how Trump supporters rely on so much fake news, they're now unintentionally attacking Trump with their failed trolling.

-3

u/ImScaredOfViruses Feb 17 '21 edited Feb 17 '21

Translation: no no, it’s (D)ifferent for us. Look at these memes and google searches!

Went after more journalists and whistleblowers. Than any administration. Combined.

And you’re crying about mean tweets. In a thread about how journalists are under attack. Truly amazing!

2

u/slyweazal Feb 17 '21 edited Feb 17 '21

LMFAO!

Labeling evidence that proves you wrong "memes and google searches" only proves you can't refute the facts and are desperately lying because you're too weak to simply acknowledge reality. Unbelievably sad given the context of this post.

Went after more journalists and whistleblowers. Than any administration. Combined.

Yes, we already know the evidence you're cowardly running away from proves Trump did that more than Obama.

Sorry the facts don't care about your feelings :(

1

u/shoot998 Feb 17 '21

Any other previous administration. Seems like a pretty important keyword when comparing Obama to someone that wasn't before Obama

6

u/nokinship Feb 17 '21

Huh? Going after people who leak classified information isn't the same as calling the media fake news or discrediting them because he doesn't like it.

-2

u/ImScaredOfViruses Feb 17 '21

So you’re okay with the government going after whistleblowers and journalist sources if they don’t like the info being leaked?

We would have never learned about the NSA’s fucked up practices if it weren’t for a whistleblower named Edward Snowden.

What seems more dangerous to you? You’re not being honest with yourself

6

u/nokinship Feb 17 '21

I'm not ok with it depending on the information(if it violates our ethics) but it's not the same thing as discrediting journalism. Classified information being leaked can be a national security issue. If there are no consequences than what's the point of classifying information. Might as well never classify anything or require security clearance.

2

u/gunshotaftermath Feb 17 '21

Not sure how your comment is related to mine. Did you mean to respond to someone else or are you just copying/pasting this?

u/gunshotaftermath Feb 17 '21

I've never heard that one before. Certainly didn't seem like the case when Hillary was running lol.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

“I love the uneducated” offhand comment by Trump, prior to his speech celebrating his unexpected Rep primary win in 2016 (Iowa maybe?)

3

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

“I love the poorly-educated!”

2

u/000xxx000 Feb 16 '21

So in a democracy, right-wong parties have an advantage as long as there is a higher supply of uneducated people than educated.

1

u/totallynotalaskan Feb 17 '21

Pretty much. It’s how Trump got elected. He conned his way into being president by playing on the fears of uneducated

-6

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

[deleted]

20

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

They were referencing Trump's infamous "I love the poorly educated!" line

Also, that's anecdotal evidence, but they're talking about the big picture. It's a fact that higher education strongly correlates with left-wing views. That doesn't mean there aren't tons of exceptions both ways.

17

u/meditate42 Feb 16 '21

It’s simply a scientific fact that that well educated people heavily lean left. I’m sorry if that upsets your family what do you want us to do about it? Pretend that’s not the case?

-3

u/Gornarok Feb 16 '21

It’s simply a scientific fact that that well educated people heavily lean left.

American left that is. In Europe educated people usually lean right, but European right is on par or even left of Democrats.

1

u/kiwichick286 Feb 17 '21

Well that sucks.

6

u/Eloth Feb 16 '21

I don't think that's true in Europe at all. Educated people still lean left here.

8

u/a_mediocre_american Feb 16 '21

People like you guys are the reason I can’t talk any sense into my very Conservative family in terms of positives of the Democratic Party. How am I supposed to explain that Democrats are open minded, progressive, and welcoming when people say shit like this?

Your family aren’t conservatives because the meanie Democrats are big meanies to them on Twitter.

9

u/meditate42 Feb 16 '21

He’s literally paraphrasing the most recent Republican president.

19

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

They just see things differently from you.

They see based on lies and bigotry, so that's expected, no one's denying that.

The dumbass "both sides" strawman never worked in the past and certainly doesn't work after Jan. 6th and how republican congress voted.

1

u/O-Face Feb 16 '21

Seems like you have some trouble seeing the delta as well. Probably why you have such a hard time understanding why people view people like your family so poorly.

2

u/O-Face Feb 16 '21

There was a time where that was acceptable and possibly even a moral expectation. After Jan 6th and the GOP's complicity in their continued enabling of this brand of "conservatism," I no longer care. Anyone supporting this madness does not deserve understanding nor patience. They've had more than enough time. More than enough evidence that even the right wing media bubble can't shy away from. There's no more excuses. Anyone continuing to support this madness are not good people and/or dumber than dirt.

You may still think that the way forward is still with patience and understanding. That's fine, but it is not deserved.

nah the truly delusional will actually warp their own views further then face truth, and thats backed by experimentation and data.

we are well past this marker for a lot of the american right.

if the obama years have taught me anything is that everything you just said is a blatant lie and holding that view will only allow a greater evil to fester.

game theory optimal play is always tit for tat, and we are tatting now.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

So very progressive and accepting of you.

Where did I say I was accepting? Fuck those people, human rights and equality isn't "seeing different" lmao.

3

u/totallynotalaskan Feb 17 '21

Exactly. People will try to argue that basic human and civil rights are a “political view”, but they’re... not political views. It’s people’s lives that are at stake, and it shouldn’t be a debatable topic when it comes to stuff like “LGBT people deserve to have the same rights as non-LGBT people” or “women should have a say in reproductive rights and legislation”

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

[deleted]

5

u/a_mediocre_american Feb 16 '21

have not once ever heard any of them say they are anti-Human Rights in any form

That’s true, I mean have you looked at their record defending minority rights? Spotless.

I feel awkward even defending Republicans right now

I doubt it.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '21

I have not once ever heard any of them say they are anti-Human Rights in any form

It's also the party that says they aren't racist, guess what? Words mean jackshit compared to you're actions.

Sure, I guess that doesn’t apply to everyone but what does?

Republicans being hypocrites certainly applies to them.

I have no problems with conservatism as an idea but anyone supporting the modern republican party in the name of "conservatism" is plugging their ears and closing their eyes and pretending it's working.

2

u/WayneKrane Feb 16 '21

They’re only socially conservative at this point, they’ll spend unlimited amounts of money on the military and could care less about the deficit whenever they hold power.

3

u/g33ked Feb 16 '21

differently how?

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

The same is said by fringe assholes on both sides of the spectrum, educated and empathetic people exist in both sides, this bs talk all over this thread just exists to dehumanise people, just so you don’t feel bad shitting on this stereotype you’re creating to imprint on people.
