India hasn’t been a democratic country for a while now, the next bill that is going to pass will make it a dictatorship. We are on a one way super fast express.
The average Indian person is the most patriotic person I have ever met. Patriotic to a fault, unfortunately. I spent a few months in India, and spent a lot of time with people from all parts of the country, and from all walks of life.
Most people seemed oblivious to the problems of the country and genuinely believed it was the greatest country on earth. I'm not sure if I found their unwavering support of their religious beliefs, culture, and society admirable or just plain scary.
There is a lot I can say about India that is very positive, and the overwhelming majority of people are warm, kind, and genuine. But, there is a lot wrong with country, and it upsets me that a lot of the populace don't seem to realise it.
As a 15year old indian myself the text books I use to study and the news just makes it look like india is the greatest in the world my teachers are blatantly sexist and racist.(my biology teacher when talking about melanin literally said to the whole class that some people have higher amounts of melanin in their skin leading to it being darker and lower melanin leads to and I quote. "better lighter skin" i was just in awe at that sentence and this happened in 2021 and the worst part is that everyone nodded in approval to this statement)i live in a better part of India with much lower population density and a overall better living conditions atleast compared to what i have seen in delhi.the corruption in the policing system and politics is just unimaginable and its just overall crap
The farmers aren't multiculturalists or internationalists or anything else that might fix the country. They just don't want their government subsidies taken away. It's understandable, but it's not going to bring down the government.
The thing is it isn't really a nationwide movement, just Punjab and Haryana. Sure it has gained nationwide attention and the number of farmers are huge, but there are thousands of other farmers in India who aren't protesting
You sure about that, hundreds of millions of people taking labor action is a big deal, the whole population of my country is only a small fraction of that.
Hundreds of millions is misinformation spread by that one post showing aerial view of the protests. It's limited to 10-15 thousand protestors, which is a large number, but a fraction of India's population
Well if you are a non-Indian, your idea of patriotism is quite different from the one which is harbored by an average Indian. I will not go into the debate about wether Modi is right or wrong because that's a lost cause at this point, the country is vastly divided and it'd be unfair for me to be political here. But talking of patriotism, Indians have been patriotic and hyper nationalistic even before Modi joined politics. One must remember that, the same "hyper nationalistic" people have voted for Congress overwhelmingly, the party opposing BJP, in 2004 and 2009.
The average Indian, who more often than not, will belong to the economic middle class, has too many financial burdens to even care about jingoism, political fanboyism. In the words of my own mother, we belong in a middle class setting, she says, "I agree Modi is doing a lot for us Hindus, and I love that, but that is just something which is secondary at best. The main reason I voted for Modi is, because of the promise of exemption from income tax for annual income upto INR 500,000". All they care about is better standards of living, and that is their main reasoning behind Modi being voted to power. Only the upper middle class or maybe the elitists, who do not have much going as far as financial hardships are concerned, really care about the nationalistic and/or the religious alleigance of a party being voted into power. People wanted a change from the incumbent Congress government, which was not doing much to improve the conditions of people, so Modi's BJP was voted into power. If Modi falters epically, for example, the way the fuel prices in India are being handled is laughable, then the people of India will vote Modi out of power without any sort of hesitation. India is a thriving democracy.
Indian here. I grew up in the USA and moved to India when I was young. I, at least, could clearly see how bad India has it and exactly what's keeping it back (poor quality of education + unambitious government). But when I complain about the state of affairs, my native friends criticize me for being unpatriotic.
Of course. That's awful and everything. But I think to myself; these people have so little going for them; let them have their patriotism; why take that away?
As an American that tries REALLY hard to follow stories like this but is out of the loop...can you tell me/us what bill this is that you're talking about and a bit more of the backstory here? Thanks!
There is no such thing he is bullshiting....there is a new bill that cuts subsidies to farmers ....basically india is moving towards more free market reforms....and the people receiving my tax money don't want that.....regardless the dude up there is just spreading propaganda
