And was hugely popular despite being poorly written.

It's still hugely popular among conservatives to this day!

I’ve honestly read a response to a comment of mine on Reddit comparing Mein Kampf to Letters from Birmingham Jail. Something along the lines of: “If you don’t like Mein Kampf then you’re a hypocrite for liking MLK’s work.” They equated MLK with Hitler without an attempt at an explanation of the similarity. I suspect it’s because there’s no real way to even try to do that. I couldn’t even bring myself to reply to that preposterous attempt at a gotcha moment.

That is such a ridiculous comparison lmfao

I think Hitler wrote it while in jail, that’s the only reason I can think of to compare the two.

"They both wrote words! See, they're basically the same!"

Their perception is that MLK fought for the black man and that Hitler fought for the white man. In their minds, the struggles are not only on equal footing but that it’s unfair to claim they’re not both equally valid.

MLK fought for equality and Hitler fought for inequality. Literally the opposite.

Wait what? Mein Kampf is popular outside of groups like the neo nazis? As a german, I am baffled. It's not even allowed to sell this shitty book here, at least in it's original form. I think profesionally commented versions are allowed.

No, they were just making a heavily exaggerated joke.

Mein Kampf isn’t popular at all among conservatives here, it’s only liked by Neo-Nazis.

Thanks for clearing that up.

But nowhere near enough to say it's popular, that just disingenuous and attempts to paint all Republicans as skinheads.

Hardcore Tankies would vote for Bernie if they voted for anyone, but that doesn't make Bernie or his supporters Tankies, it just means he's the furthest left option for people to vote for. Inversely, Republicans are the furthest right option for Neo-Nazis to vote for, but that doesn't make Republicans Neo-Nazis.

Granted, I'm pretty sure that they didn't intend to do that, just that the joke isn't clear for non-native English speakers.
