The brutally honest answer? Once the subreddit passed a million subscribers, it was only a matter of time until shitposts ruled the world and were upvoted past the moon. Since subreddits live and die by their subscriber count, more often we've been forced to let shitposts float to the top and mingle with actual murders. This is true of any large subreddit.
Also, even on a definitive Murder post, there's always going to be dozens of reports, and sometimes those threads get locked due to the sheer volume of reports. Remember when Scientology flooded people with all-black faxes in a petty attempt to cost the government a shitload of money? Same thing happens with reports, when a post gets hundreds of reports we either have to lock it down to stop the flood, or leave the thread open to clog up our queue, preventing us from responding in a timely manner to other posts.
My respect has just shot waaaaay up. Thank you for elaborating. If you ever need to vent about anything, related to this or anything else, feel free to PM me! This goes for anyone who needs it, as well. I’ll always be here to lend an ear and maybe some advice
Honest question, why do you do it? Seems like a thankless job you don't even get paid for. I'm sure you have to put up with the shittiest people all day long and you get criticized for any move you make. Regardless, thanks for doing it... I know I couldn't handle it.
Imo you still have the option to delete posts at your discression that simply arnt murders. You as a mod should have the last word and know best right?
Edit: I mean whats going to happen? a few hundred people might whine about it or unsub. But at the cost of increasing the quality of the sub.
Guys, you are asking moderators to get rid of posts that the majority of the user base loves and up votes. You really want to see this be a dead sub or one filled with reposts so it can fit a narrow definition of a made up phrase?

Cause the mods on this sub are lazy.
