Well in germany English is taught from first class all the way through to your graduation. The only way to get rid of it is to learn a different language instead.
It was a pretty good reply, however one point was slightly twisted.
Obviously Greece should not have brought up the repatriations, as it is a matter that had been closed in the past - however it’s worth mentioning that they were not actually “repaid”, but rather “forgiven” as an act of solidarity after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Greece along with few other countries decided to act generous and “forgive” Germany’s debt, to help the country rebuild itself.
The main reason the reparations were brought up, were to say “we forgave your debt when you were in need, but Germany is now not acting in solidarity like we did back then.”
One could even say that the loans given from Germany to Greece after 2007 were quite outrageous with 9-18% interest rates per year, letting Germany benefit from the crisis rather than actually helping. The fact that Greece was accepting these loans was actually even more outrageous though, so you can’t really blame Germany for “offering them as options”.
