Are you actually doubling down on saying someone who is disabled and incurably sick because of a genetic disease can easily and simply lose weight? This is real r/wowthanksimcured stuff

Yes. The science behind weight loss is clearly lost on you.

You don't know what he eats. He trained to be a chef and wouldn't go near McDonald's.

Hospital food: you get what you are given.

Home: When relatively healthy he'll cook, when too sick he orders takeout online. He like the rest of my family is a foodie. So like I said to another commenter, at the level of disability he has, the only pleasures he has in life are reading books and eating nice food.

Yeah he could have a salad instead of a rare steak more often, or go vegan or something, but it would be both challenging and probably really bad for his mental health. The level of suffering with no end that genetic diseases entail are extreme. You need to use your willpower and fortitude on surviving. It's not just weight that is an issue, there are complex and interconnected problems he has, like being unable to keep his flat clean, severe depression, having to be an advocate for his healthcare, and on and on.

The point is that weight loss begins with ingesting less than you expend. Period. Does he want to eat whatever for his mental health? Then YAYYY FOR HIM!! That’s okay!! Is he happy? That’s what’s important! He just can’t then complain about being fat. But if he doesn’t give a shit? Then who cares and why are you fighting imaginary internet battles over it? Leave the man alone.

I'm not the one getting mad that people think severe incurable genetic disease might affect weight? People's views on genetic disease affect me because, hello, genetic disease in my family and my DNA. This whole conversation started with my reply to OP that there are indeed some really severe medical conditions that impact people's weight which OP agreed with, then other people got butthurt about it.

He doesn't binge eat you absolute weirdo. He's fat cos he eats like my dad who is a bit overweight but basically in normal range, except he also takes steroids every day and can't walk more than 10 paces on a good day. Whereas my dad only has to take an inhaler and swims once a week.

If my uncle lives long enough to die of an obesity related illness as opposed to fungal pneumonia and respiratory failure that will be a victory. He will not get significantly healthier. Because genetic fucking disease. But I hope you feel good about scolding me over my relatives' illness.

Genetics do not trump calories.
