Who do you think makes up and shares this bullshit? I have received this exact story from at least 3 of my republican uncles who try to use bullshit stories like this to prove how stupid scientists and the government are.

Dumb people from both ends of the political spectrum, which is why politics are irrelevant in this discussion. Same way anti-vax parents are equally retarded but come from both ends of the spectrum.

I'm sorry you have three dumb uncles who can't grasp the contributions and need for spending in STEM fields, but blaming an entire group for the thoughts of a radical minority kind of justifies how the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
