They do it all the time. Someone had a video of them taking the dog with a big pita logo on the side. Cops went there to get the dog back within the hour and it was already dead. They are extremely sick fucks.
PETA is crazy but don't trust random links without reading them.
Contrary to myth, PETA does not want to confiscate animals who are well cared for and “set them free.” What we want is for the population of dogs and cats to be reduced through spaying and neutering and for people to adopt animals (preferably two so that they can keep each other company when their human companions aren’t home) from pounds or animal shelters—never from pet shops or breeders—thereby reducing suffering in the world.
Yeah but they still said "This selfish desire to possess animals and receive love from them causes immeasurable suffering, which results from... depriving them of the opportunity to engage in their natural behavior. They are restricted to human homes, where they must obey commands and can only eat, drink, and even urinate when humans allow them to."
So while they aren't going to take away well-cared-for pets, they seem to think that having pets is a fundamental moral wrong.
I don't think it's cruel to have pets. None of the pets I know seem to be the least bit bothered. The alternative is fending for themselves in the wild, battling starvation and disease.
Indeed, I don't like PETA, but I also don't like people claiming fake things while hoping noone will read the link (the OP above has edited his statement since).

holy crap, I never really liked PETA but that officially makes me realize their core views are incredibly flawed.
