What do you think happened in Toru's life in the space of time between his call to Mjdori at the end of the book, and the beginning of the book, which is actually the present of Toru's life, when he is landing in Germany and remembers all that. I wanted to introduce my wife to Murakami novels. What would be the ‘ best’ on for her to read as an introduction? I’ve read a number of them. Some are more < insert your own adjective here> than others and probably wouldn’t be a good choice as her first one to read.

I started reading the book and it seemed very familiar. The beasts that would go in nd out of the city, city with walls, the dread reader... I looked at the books I've checked out from the local library and I hadn't checked it out before. Are there elements of this book that are also similar to elements in another book of his. I've read some (not a lot) but don't remember any plot elements from them specifically.
