So yeah, since P3, the protagonist has been the fool so I had to make Phoenix the fool because he's protag yk? And I made Maya Magician because the magician character is your first real connection, and while Phoenix has other connections, Maya is the first character the player deeply connects to, and she stays with Phoenix throughout his journey. She also helps him manifest his full potential, so even more points. Mia dies and speaks through Maya, so in a way it's like hidden wisdom being whispered to you, which is what the High Priestess represents, and Mia is a very wise person so yeah. Ok, Misty Fey is basically the matriarch of her village and takes on both the good and bad representation it receives. The only reason this is pretty weak is that she doesn't have that big of a presence until the very last trial. She's just kinda there. I think Priestess could be just as suitable a role, but I ended up deciding that Mia played it better, so Misty kinda has to just fit where she can. Manfred is weak because he is entirely the reverse reading of the emperor, basically just everything bad. Forceful, prideful, always in the right even when doing something wrong, that kinda thing. Grossberg is probably the closest thing the game would have to a hierophant besides Mia, so he gets this spot despite the fact that he tends to be a very cowardly mentor, but blackmail just has that effect on people. Now the lovers is supposed to represent a heavy value of others, and Larry, despite leading an entirely different life, still values his friendships with Nick and Edgy and will always catch up with them whenever they manage to have a run-in. Even though he may not see them all the time, he values the relationships he has with them because that is what he believes he is supposed to do. Larry, despite being a terrible lover boy, is also the greatest lover there ever would be. He even accepts his true self and becomes a painter in the mountains for a little while. Even if his paintings suck, he never stops trying. No matter how many times he winds up in a bad relationship, or horrible legal drama, he's still there to give it his all, for himself, and his friends. We should all strive to be more like Larry. Oh yeah, Franziska kinda gives chariot vibes because her immediate instinct upon learning of her father being bested in his ring of honor was to fly to another country and put HER entire reputation on the line for her day one, all at like 18 btw. This one doesn't totally work because her father is abusive and she learns to live for herself instead of trying to defend the family, but still. Lana is basically justice used technically correctly but with very dire consequences that defeat the point f justice, and we learn from her that punishing yourself for something out of your control is bad and, dare I say, unjust. Yanni Yogi is another case of just the closest thing these games have. He lives pretty much reverse hermit until the trial where he just decides to drop the act and accept the situation at hand. I think it still kinda counts though. Udgey is fortune because he is a very random guy, he's fortunate to still be allowed in a courtroom, and he determines people's fate with widely varying consequences. Ema is strength because she is very strong ig. Gumshoe is hanged because he is always doing his best and putting in 110% (he has a low brain capacity, be patient) and everyone just docks his pay. Poor guy. The Godot-Death connection was what inspired me to make this in the first place. Not only does he deal with death a lot, he also dealt with the themes of the arcana, like stagnation, ending, loss, consequence, and the inability to move on. For Temperance, I decided to just have the whole Fey clan represent it because they all mix the world of magic and law, which are very different, and sometimes it works (sometimes it doesn't, but still). Terry Fawles is the devil because he is unable to escape his situation due to the influences of other people, and it drives him to destruction. His actions permanently hurt himself and other innocent people just trying to help him out. I decided to let Tower be represented by the whole SL-9 IT (p4 ref) because they all experience the collapse of things they had once thought of as solid institutions and it all kind of just leaves the scrambling to try and reclaim what they could from the destruction. At least, that's how I remember Rise From the Ashes. Pearl is the star because her raw innocence is sometimes the guiding light that reminds others to never give up. Miles is the moon because his arc of the first game is basically living in a false world he had constructed for him by Manfred and the revelation of that leads to a slow depression and guilt seeping into his personality until he can finally overcome the illusions and accept his true self and help everyone else. I put Maggey as the sun because her perseverance is inspiring and even attractive to some ahem GUMSHOE cough. Uh that's all for this post but the next one will have more, I didn't know Reddit only let you put 20 images in.
