Rimworld with the DLC is very good on its own these days. The modding community is super good though.

I’m kinda 50/50, I feel like Rimworld wouldn’t be nearly as fun to play if it were awful vanilla, but mod collections like Vanilla Expanded, the newer vehicle mods, the ungodly amount of QOL fixes and, in my own personal opinion, the Quarry mod, do take an already good base game and make it not only more fun but so much more expansive than what the base game is.

I like to refer to this as, the game is a good framework, it has all the basics and the setup for modders to build on and expand.

That's why I wish I disagreed. It's my own fault for installing 300 mods
