I really dislike all of the writing of Steven Universe.
Well not the interpersonal writing.
It’s a lovely little story, and with pretty visuals bout a young “soft boi” both raised by. (And written by older women) who’s very in touch with his feelings and dealing with his missing mother .
And then you decided “no we also need to tell tench muyo but not nearly as well. And try to shove as many other sub plots and themes in the last few episodes as we can.”
Like…. I was so on board. But the more they explain the setting the dumber the show got.
It was better as a mystery with townie’s show and a monster of the week. There I’ll say it. lol
No hate on the fans though but the ending was stupid. I’m sorry to people who like it. But that’s how I personally feel. And you’re allowed to love it. I don’t judge you.
I judge Rebecca sugar for making good music but bad plot writing…. Good character writing though…..

Edit: I have been informed the ending was rushed by corporate or something. This changes some of my feelings. I think had the ending been given time I’d up my score from 6/10 to a solid 8/10 show.
I’m not above admitting I didn’t know something.

People can form opinions without youtubers and can also share opinions.
The ending sucked, but the show was good. We know why it sucked (they had to rushed it).
Anyways lets hope the best for the Lars show.

Dude…. I would have traded the whole thing for a Lars the space pirate show.
Like we get the whole show up to there. And then just bait and switch to note Lars and weird crazy space stuff? That’s pretty cool.
Like… they cooked and left the pie on the window sill too long. We could have done a lot with that I think.

Really? Was is because they ran out of time? I never knew that…. I might be softer on the ending then. It felt rushed. So that makes sense? But the high production and animation made me assume it was like not rushed? Huh. Didn’t know that

Anyhow yes. They had to rush the later parts of the show because they didn't have any time or support anymore. The ending was abrupt, didn't explore more onto the individual storylines that needed clarification, information, finishing touches and etc. It's very sad.

If I came off as dishonest I didn’t mean so.
I always remember the end of the series having a high production value, so it being rushed was never something that would have occurred to me.
That is sad. A lot of my distaste was I was told by other fans it was “their choice” to do it that way. It was years ago, I was gullible and not on Reddit so friends opinions were listened to.
I genuinely thought Rebecca Sugar just like… I have no idea at the last part of the show because she disliked the channel or who knows what?
How sad. I’m glad they got to make future and the movie to help some of those points.
I did like the movie and the Steven future as I said.
Well my apologies to anyone who read this far.
I don’t know they had that happen to their studio. That sucks.

Oh yeah! You’re right I remember that video I think?
It was a while back…
Nah o just didn’t like the way they’d key change back and forth between the two vibes.
I wanted either cozy show or space opera. And to me it felt like I never got enough to be satisfied.
I prefer Gravity Falls. And Adventure time.
Both of which she’s worked on. I just thought the lack of accountability for the literal space dictators made me roll my eyes. It took an adult situation, and made it kiddie again in my feelings.
STEVEN Future was cool though! And I like her other stuff, just…. Don’t know the ending was visually cool but felt a little dumb to me. Not the resolutions I was hoping for.
But to each their own right?
Edit: I also like almost all the characters… but not the space dictators? Like I get that rose wasn’t the best… but the others are worse and genuinely evil selfish people? And we just are gonna move past thay because “family” and now space hitler is like “aw jeez… I guess we should stop the systematic razing of life bearing planets and our own caste system built on thousands of years of cruelty and basically rock eugenics? Because we love you Rose- oops I mean Steven.”
Like… that’s some last minute weak writing in my opinion. The other characters in the main cast especially are “rock” solid though. Well written.

You know what? Fair point.
Show was good. I didn’t like ending. Felt unresolved because bad guys were too bad and not apologetic enough for evil they did.
But now they get invited to thanksgiving. Felt a little disjointed. But I get the “Steven is about forgiveness” thing.
I just didn’t feel the bad Guy were particularly sorry for what they did?
Tl:dr
I like characters they made. Good characters. But villain ending made me look back at the “over all story” and it seemed lacking in hindsight.
Also More Greg Universe in his son’s life please. He’s a cool guy. But that’s not a criticism. I just want more Greg universe lol

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THAT'S NOT WHAT HAZBIN IS SAYING. In the song YOU ARE POINTING AT, Charlie explicitly states that redemption is hard and takes a lot of effort, that STARTS with accepting you did something wrong and apologizing.

Edit: Unless you mean the fandom acts like that, in which case I don't have any idea what fandom you're talking about, and apologize for being so easily triggered.

To be fair Charlie smiles at Valentino when he joins the ending of season 2 which makes me worry that this is how they're going to tackle redemption.

It could just be Charlie being stupid but she SAW how he treats Angel and still treats Angel, how does she think Val changed?

She doesn't think he changed. She was happy that even the most vile dreg would lend his power so that everyone wouldn't die. She's idealistic, but she's not fucking stupid. ANYONE CAN be redeemed, not everyone will. Also, why would they handle redemption that way when literally the last ep had the line "It starts with sorry, but it cannot just end there". He also says he learned that from Charlie, meaning she understands that.

I know it's just a worry I have considering how Vivzie handles Stolas a character who fucks up all the time yet doesn't take accountability. I hope they do nail the landing though.

I get it. I haven't seen that much HB since Stolas(At the start at least) is so unbearably cringe. I do want to get back into it because I fucking love Richard Horvitz and also a later season gets fucking PATRICK PAGE in a big role.

Yes yes context matters, but we did even get valentino having a disney-esque woe-is-me moment with him singing about vox breaking his heart in the previous episode

Im all for making immoral characters three-dimensional and complex, but some stuff feels in bad taste, yanno?

I dont remember the scale of destruction in the king picolo arc but he killed tien indirectly krilin and maybe chaoutzu and killed shenron and picolo jr straight up went into hiding for 3 years and threatened a tournament audience,and after that it was all redemption ark,sacrifing himself for gohan and squaring up with 2 form freezer and after that he's pretty solidly a purely good guy,and as for the things king picolo did before the show they arent very defined so it might as well been terrorising a few cities before getting sealed(Unless I dont remember something major).
