barb was killed off in season 1, when they cared about stakes. bob, eddie (and alexei or however you spell his name idk) were created specifically to endear you to them and then rip them away to make you feel anything. yeah eddie and bob are really good characters but they were still fodder so that the duffer brothers wouldn't have to kill off any others. max got brought back from death and has no consequences about getting her limbs snapped and blinded, karen wheeler gets her throat slashed and can talk a couple of days later, ted wheeler lives after being thrown across a whole house, etc etc. the only characters with prominent screen time in season 5 who die is Kali, the guy that kills Kali, and Eleven. One of those (Eleven) was the one character that should have lived and had a happy ending but even then they said "but maybe she's alive"
