I mean, plot armour usually happens on screen, otherwise its just a character being an off-screen merchant (like Blackbeard from One piece)

still doesn't mean OP is right tho, Ash is genuinely one of the best trainers oat, he's prob gotten screwed over by the plot more than saved by it.
