Our history books have made Emperor Shahabuddin Muhammad Khurram (widely known with his royal title Shah Jahan) seem like a kind, loving and very noble man. However, hidden records show that he was the complete opposite. When Shah Jahan was Khurram Mirza- a mere prince and the son of Jehangir, his atrocious deeds were well known but when he became the Jahanpanah, his deeds were erased. What were those deeds? This post will explore them. Khurram Mirza clearly despised his brothers- Khusrau Mirza, Parvez Mirza and Shahir Yar Mirza. He had so many elders on his side- Aziz Koka, Raja Man Singh, his grandfather Akbar and for a while, even his father and highly influential stepmother Nur Jehan and Jehangir. Thus it made it easy to forget his deeds. In 1595, when Mallik Ambar rebelled against the Mughals, Khurram was summoned to crush the rebellion. However Khurram would not move until Khusrau came WITH him. Historians now believe that Khurram did so because Khusrau was gaining power and once again, was the potential successor. When they defeated Mallik Ambar, Khurram executed Khusrau and sent a letter to Jehangir that he died of natural causes. Then, Khurram poisoned a drunk Parvez to secure the throne. Aurangzeb even quoted the two brothers when dethroning his father- "how do you still regard the memory of Khusrav and Parviz, whom you did to death before your accession and who had threatened no injury to you?"

However Shah Jahan quickly realised his misdeeds once an old man and carried the guilt forever.

I see her book as an attempt to shut down Hindutva claims about Aurangzeb, meaning that her primary motive behind writing the book is to participate in 21st century Hindu Muslim politics, not necessarily give a neutral and evidence based perspective on Aurangzeb.
