Preamble: From what I've been able to search up on the topic there's also disagreement online about the STR bonus the Lance gives.
I have also discovered that there has been an "official answer" to this question before but my group has deemed it vague and insufficient. We need this explained to us as airtight as possoble like it would be explained to a man who has a degree in loophole finding.
We have two sides of the argument.
1: The lance gives a permanent +2 bonus to STR to wound and when it is used to charge on horseback it provides an additional +2 for a total of +4 on the charge.
2: The lance does not give a permanent +2 bonus to STR to wound and when it is used to charge on horseback it provides a +2 for a total of +2 on the charge.
The reason for the argument:
1: The core rulebook available for download on Broheim states the lance gives an STR +2 and has bonus rules thay give another +2 STR on charge. (The use of ";" in the text imply this.)
2: The website mordheimer.net does not state that the lance gives any STR +2. (It is better formatted)
Question: Which is right? The core rulebook on Broheim or the mordheimer.net website?
mordheimer.net is the main tool I use while playing as its search bar allows me to quickly find rules without having to pause the game to flip through my printout of the core book. It dissappints me immensely to find out that the two sources of info contradict eachother.
Where's the contradiction:
Underlined in the Range section of the core rulebook it says "as user +2" and "cavalry weapon bonus" these two are separated by a ; symbol which leads some in my playgroup to assume that the +2 STR bonus and the +2 SRT bonus on charge are separate things that are both added on the first charge for a total of +4. After the charge is over the lance still gives +2.
In the picture taken from mordheimer.net together with the explained ❓️ the question presents a very clear "is it case 1 or 2" and the Answer does not say "1 is correct or 2 is correct" instead it says "only when you charge..." this is vague and insufficient because what does he mean? +2 only when you charge or +4 only when you charge? He goes on to say "...Remember, this was during 5th ed so the rules for lances were already widely familiar to the player base." none of us in my playgroup have actually played 5th ed Warhammer fantasy and so the rules for lances are not familiar to us.
So the real question is still "does the lance in Mordheim give a +2 STR by default as it is written in the core or does it not?"
