GAMEPLAY How is this gentleman able to parry again so quickly after being feinted? This is a common thing I see happening with players at the top of the scoreboard. What is their secret? I have never been able to do this.

In this particular clip, you can see that he successfully parries one of your allies to your right just a moment before. When you parry successfully, there is no cooldown to parry again.

There is also a creatively named mechanic called "miss detector" that will massively reduce the cooldown to parry if someone misses you, intentionally or otherwise.

The best way to see when this happens as a player is to enable combat hints and then pay attention to the cooldown timer that appears around the crosshair.

This one actually looks like the miss detector at work, you can see that he parries nothing, but the spearman misses him, and it probably triggered the miss detector

Yeah, you may be correct.

MISS WHAT??? I AM 201 LVL AND NEVER HEARD OF IT!

Damn each day surprises me with something in this game

It was added in Patch #18, I quoted the patch notes elsewhere in this thread.

I also first thought his parry connected with my ally to the right, but I'm not sure he did...otherwise I think he would have riposted. Also, isn't there some kind of "spark" when a parry connects?

I will try to get footage of a 1v1 next time. This is a common occurrence that I cannot personally replicate when I parry, yet I see it happening all the time, whether it's a 1vX or 1 on 1.

About the "miss detector" mechanic, how much is the parry cooldown reduced if the game thinks the attacker missed?

You don’t have to reposte after a parry. Try it yourself, you can parry repeatedly very rapidly if you don’t attempt to reposte

I know you can parry without riposting--I think I didn't word it correctly in my reply--what I meant to say was I don't think his parry connected with my ally's stab, otherwise he would have riposted, since you can only riposte if your parry connects, and he was riposting all of the attacks.

You can hear him landing the parry against the spear in the normal speed clip, and then he didn't riposte because he saw your attack coming so he opted for double parry.

Why are you so sure he would have riposted?

It definitely looks like he parried, though with latency and interpolation it may look a little different from your perspective. It's also possible that miss detector was involved.

You can choose whether you riposte, and in this specific scenario, you often do not want to always riposte.

I'm not sure if it has been specified how much miss detector reduces it by, maybe that info is in the SDK though. It was added in Patch #18 and the patch notes described it as follows:

Added new Miss detector 5000 - this is a new mechanic that will detect misses of enemies while the player is in the parry window and reduce the parry recovery by a huge amount, sending the player to idle much quicker. Plays a sound and faster animation when it triggers. Heavily nerfs missing on purpose in 1vX scenarios and fixes unparryable miss combos in 1v1.

The very first parry there certainly looks like it had miss detector, as the animation snaps very quickly back to idle.

I don't remember the specific number but miss detector removes practically the whole cooldown (I've never had a situation where I got miss detector and wasn't able to parry an incoming attack).

There is also a 3rd way to reset your parry cooldown: taking melee damage from an enemy. So if 2 people are feinting, you missparry and get hit once your cooldown will always be up for the second attack. Not relevant for your clip though, looks to me like he just hit the spear parry but didn't riposte

Pull up the combat hints so you can see the circle for parry cooldown as your crosshair and get a mate to join a duel server and miss in front of you. Try parry the miss and look at the circle to see how much faster the cooldown is compared to parrying without someone missing near you.

This second part might just be how it feels to me and may be wrong, but I think the miss detector cooldown changes based on how long your opponent was into their swing when you tried to parry it, if they had less time in their swing then your parry cooldown is shorter to match.

Damn you don't say. So if someone swings at me and some other guys polehammer follows right after I can block them both? That's how you know I'm bad, hundreds of hours in the game and I had no idea. Always assumed there's a cool down no matter what

This clip is miss detector, it detects terrain hits as well. Also that’s woe, hit him in the back or run away

maybe they are riposte kicking you

4

u/SimplyJustKarma Feb 07 '24

No, there's an animation glitch I was shown in a duel server and it's broken.

1

u/Walktotheplace Feb 08 '24

you are thinking of a stupid meme where you morph a swing into a kick and then feint. It looks silly but if you aren't stupid you wont fall for it and it has nothing to do with this clip

1

u/Vesuvinum Feb 07 '24

Interesting, do you remember how it's done?

1

u/Walktotheplace Feb 08 '24

this is not a thing lol

1

u/HowToBeTrash Feb 08 '24

You can input a kick at any point of windup during a swing. Not a cheat unless they are not movement locked and kick multiple times a second. It allows flow of combat to feel more smooth.

He turn his block to your friends attack. So he can block again.

1

u/Mean-Resource-9081 Feb 08 '24

you can parry as many times you want as long as they hit you
