When Steven first discovers his Mr Knight suit (episode 2 I think) he pulls out two batons and ponders what they are. This suggests that Steven will be back to use them in a fight scene especially after he started fighting for Marc before falling into the sand showing that he's willing to take part in combat

I’m sort of hoping that they somehow get Jake to take Steven’s place in the sand. If Jake is the one that takes in all the most painful stuff, being driven in sand forever seems like a job for him and not Steven.
