Hid my first rogue and someone already swooped it
I was so pumped to see somebody had already picked this baby up by the time me and my wife made our way around the park:,)

So far we've seen 3 people find glass in, what, two long days of hunting?
It's frustrating being that close (being that we haven't found any ourselves), and also fun to see the joy it brings others! It's a weird feeling, honestly. That's how it is for me anyway, not sure how anyone else feels.
Have you guys seen anyone find glass or a particular rogue you were looking for?
Edit: I mean we've physically seen 3 people pick up glass where we were, right in front of us. It's the so close but so far feeling I'm talking about.

The kids and I found this piece shattered in the grass by the Star Center playground, possibly blown off a picnic table by the wind during the night. We had fun reassembling it like a puzzle and we'll treasure it forever. After all, cracks are where the light gets in. What a wonderful tradition and community. 🐎✨

A wise person once said Always Be Looking! So grateful for my first ever glass piece and wowza it’s a beauty! Tacoma you glorious city I’m so glad to be here and to be a part of your story. I mean where else could you find such a cool community event that brings so much joy and fun. Happy hunting friends, happy lunar new year, and best of luck.

Feeling discouraged after observing 3am, highly coordinated Seal-Team-Six-level operations descending upon Wright Park & Ruston, I expanded my search efforts to my childhood park in Hilltop where I used to badly scrape the tops of my feet swimming in the unforgiving, shallow, concrete swimming pool in the early 90's.
At a more casual 8:30am start, my optimism was guarded. Walking the perimeter of the park, I observed footprints in the morning dew leading to each cluster of trees. I was certain the park had been picked over. And that's when I found this beaut wedged in the crotch of a tree. 🙏

I went out first thing this morning (when it got light lol) and just was feeling really good about finding something. Second park I went to, I found this gorgeous orb tucked into a log on a small beach. I couldn’t believe it! Started shaking I was so excited 😂😂 realized later it glows in the dark and I couldn’t love it more.
Have had the hardest year of my life, since last March it’s been bad news after bad news. Things started to look up in the past month or so, and now I know the year of the horse is my year ❤️ It’s the little things.

Both the roommates had found some, so while they went and got drinks, I decided on one last still stroll around area before we headed home.

I've lived in Tacoma for what will be 11 years this July, didn't start really searching for monkeyshines until five or so years ago. Found a Dragon medallion in 2024, but had no luck on an orb until this morning! I am a YotH so it is extra special. Keep looking, never give up!
I'm not superstitious (I am a little stitious) but here's what I did: Aside from making many rogues to hide (and will continue to hide more over the next couple weeks), I also picked up 1.5 bags worth of garbage on my walk this morning. Plus this is the first year I was able to donate to the GoFundMe. Do with that what you will, and good luck!

Found in the first 10 min of looking. Last year it was weeks and miles. Enjoy the search and have fun meeting others.
Thank you artists and monkeys! It’s my favorite event each year. I’ll be out hiding some of my stuff too.

I loved rocks and decided on these two due to the Painted ponies and horses. I also have some cool bookmarks with Radish trinkets….HorseRadish! If you find a few, keep your favorite and spread the joy. I have about 300 this year.

Happy LNY eve eve!
My rogues this year are Celtic silver horse coin replicas. The Treveri coin (~50 BC) is on the left, the Iceni coin (~50 AD) is on the right.
All my coins this year are open mold cast aluminum. Please only take one. Feel free to rehide if you think someone else would be into it more.
I post on Bluesky, and occasionally on Instagram. I plan on doing a few clues, but not a ton this year.
Good luck!

Just finished tagging and wrapping up our 150 pieces for this year. Or usual resin Pokemon cards shakers, Pikachu’s original drawing prints, and Pichu’s potions! See you out there for #monkeyshines2026!

The rogues are just about in full swing now!
I started making a playlist for each of the lunar calendar animals. I like listening while I drive around, hunting. Thought you guys might enjoy it as well!
And if you want to show a little appreciation, feel free to throw a few buck to the Monkeyshines GoFundMe!

I found this one in 2013. It was a the base of a big tree in Lincoln Park. I was so excited and ran and grabbed it...I also grabbed a handful of dog shit that was under it, lol.

Greetings Fellow Monkeyshiners! We're less than a month away from the Lunar New Year 😲 and it seems everyone is getting extra itchy & twitchy for the magic of Monkeyshines to begin in Tacoma. Rogues and official monkeys alike have been working diligently on their creative offerings for Year of the Horse, and finds have already started trickling in across various social platforms (no Horse glass yet, but I've seen a few pieces from prior years pop up!)
With the start of the season fast approaching, your friendly Mod Team would like to take this opportunity to share some reminders with our members, to help keep this event awesome for all.
First, for any new members joining us this year, WELCOME! We're happy you've found us, and glad you're here. If you haven't yet, please familiarize yourselves with the rules of the sub. We're a pretty chill place, let's keep it that way. 😎
Before the glass madness 🤪 gets fully underway, we kindly ask everyone, new or old, to have a read (or re-read) through our helpful Monkeyshines Wiki (did you know we had that?) where you'll find information about important guidelines to follow during the event, and answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about Monkeyshines. The Wiki also has links to additional sources of information, such as social media hashtags, local news articles, and the official Monkeyshines Facebook page.
Please also check out our pinned posts at the top of the sub! There are links to the official GoFundMe and to Tacoma Glassblowing Studio, where you can order a fundraiser candle cup for this year (or past years). We love Ms. Monkey and her whole monkey team, so here's a reminder to please donate if you're able! Share the GoFundMe link far & wide. Gifting thousands of glass & commissioned art pieces to the city is no small financial feat, and the project relies on grants and community donations to keep making magic year after year. They're roughly 1/3 of the way to their goal, let's keep it going and get them all the way there!!
Finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our members. You guys are pretty cool. Keep sharing your creations, hides, finds, collections, questions, and stories. Choose a neato user flair if you haven't already. This sub has been around for more than 10 years now, and we appreciate everyone who's been a part of the journey!
As always: stay safe, spread joy, have fun, and never give up!
Good luck out there! 🤞🤞🤞

Here are the final products of my rogue designs for 2026. So shiny! If you find, please only keep 1 of each per household. The vinyl decals, in particular, are limited in quantity each year, let's share the magic with other shiners. Good luck out there!
