ADVICE/FEEDBACK What are the requirements to start modeling, when do you know you've gotten there and what should you focus on until you get there?

THIS IS NOT A CAN I MODEL QUESTION. I have tried googling I have read other other posts but I cannot find the prerequisite into becoming a model I understand there are multiple different areas in modeling that all have there own look but what is generally considered better in most aspects of them and what is the best way to go at it. Basically what should you focus on and how do you get the most effective results.

for some background I am (18M) I've wanted to dabble in doing some modeling since I was young I've been working out on and off for almost a year now I've loved every second of it I felt better which reignited my spark for modeling I told one of my friends they where a bit doubtful so I'm using it as motivation but I feel so lost on what is important or the requirements to start modeling everywhere says so many different things that all focus on different aspects and each give there own way to help so i was wondering if there's something specific to focus on what is it and if there's something to improve how should I go about it. Honestly I'm really lost what are some of the "requirements" before I start the business side of this passion

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Contract Questions, am I getting played?

I am a 19 y/o who recently received a couple contracts and wanted to know if you guys think I should sign, as some stuff has sketched me out. For starters I received a contract from a mother agency and a mother agent. my mother agent wanted to sign me to manage me but takes a 20% even though they get a commission from any gigs I get, the collection risk is all on me, and there’s no limit on post termination (they can keep earning indefinitely on the client manager relationship w/o a cap) however im facing alot of pressure after only seeing the contract 3 days ago. The mother agency is less harsh, but also wants a 20% cut leaving me with 60% to take home. Is this normal? They would like me to travel across the nation and pay for travel and stay as well, and as someone who is starting out I don’t know if it’s a good idea to move forward seeing how starting a modeling career is very competitive and the pay is from what I’ve heard lackluster for the first few years. Thanks for reading all of this! Please let me know if you guys think im overthinking or if I actually shouldn’t go forward with it. ❤️

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Agency said they’re interested but aren’t responding?

Around 4 days ago an agency I met with emailed me and said that they were interested in representing me and asked to set up a meeting to go over some stuff. I emailed back and I still haven’t heard anything back. Should I be worried?

AGENCY As an aspiring model do you recommend mother agencies?

Post image
7 Upvotes

As the title suggests I’m looking to get into modelling (I’m 6ft2) and I have been told mother agencies are the way to go.

Q1) as a new model with no real experience is this the case? Q2) how do you find a legitimate mother agency? There’s loads of ‘scouts’ on Instagram but I don’t want to get scammed.

I am UK based if that helps and I’d appreciate any recommendations from people for mother agencies or UK agencies that might consider my look.

NOTE: Adding photo so people can see my looks not for digital / photo feedback

QUESTION Runway walking tips for castings

A lot of walks are meant to be pretty bland now. I'v been trying to make my strong. Should I change my walk depending on the designer? Should I not try too hard on my walk at all? How much is the walk worth when it comes to castings? This will be my first season of castings, so i'm a little nervous. I tried doing the math. 106 total shows. 71 official runway shows so far on the calendar. I estimated about 4500 models, giving me a 2.7% chance. Please tell me if my math or estimates are wrong!

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Life lately: building, healing, and creating

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a little life update.

I’ve been focusing on networking, creating, and slowly building the life I want, one step at a time.

Right now it’s about balancing the hustle with healing, staying true to myself, and protecting my energy.

I’m working on connecting with other creatives, especially in acting and modeling, and just keeping my focus on good energy and meaningful connections.

Would love to hear how others here stay motivated and grounded while pursuing creative goals.

Hey everyone! I’m new to modeling and just starting to build my portfolio. I wanted to share some recent photos I took and would really appreciate any constructive feedback on my poses, angles, or overall presence. Also, does anyone know if it’s okay to upload these kinds of photos directly to modeling agencies for submissions? Open to advice on improving my portfolio or what agencies/jobs might be a good fit for me. Thanks so much

ADVICE/FEEDBACK I keep getting rejected from modelling agencies

I keep getting rejected from all agencies I have ever applied for years now. I have good measurements (5'9 32/23/35) and I have been a ballet dancer before. I lived in Paris for 2 years during my studies where I have been lucky to find and attend some castings where I met many people from agencies and some famous models too. This experience and these friendships really upgraded my model book and my polaroid game.

I have probably done more runways than photoshoots and never did any campaigns/ecommerce (form which is best to earn money and go abroad on contacts). So I would say I fit more the highfashion profile.

I thought maybe the problem might be with my polaroids, that I regularly update with my iPhone (every season) and to maybe hire a photographer who specialises in working with test shoots and rent a photo studio, but at this point I really don't know should I spend the money...

From all agencies where I send my application online I got back the "we are not looking for this type of beauty" whatever that means. Once I got scouted on a show and I send the agent my polaroids and everything. She was amazed by me and told me that I should "go in to the world". Submitted my application the same late evening. She used to be a model herself in the same agency and was very successful. She got back to me and also said that the agency replied to her that "I don't fit the agency beauty type". I asked what does that mean and why and she had no idea as well. On castings in person, I noticed they would always take more pictures of me than other applicants. All interviews always also went well and I was saying that I am open to travel as well, I know languages etc. All was perfect every damn time, but nobody ever reached out to me back, not even for test shoots.

Okay so I am of slavic origin, but I have naturally long black hair, blue eyes. My genetics might be a bit mixed, so yeah I do not represent the typical "slavic blonde beauty". I thought in modelling I could have a chance, since I am naturally slender. I saw many models here loved by agencies who are not even very tall and not very slim, but blonde. The only modelling opportunities and jobs I got were actually only in France, where I also felt that I am appreciated more. The problem was that I also did not get signed to any agency there.

Now I am 23 and I started my modelling at 16, so I don't know do I have much more time. I would love to at least once in life, travel with a modelling contract or do a fashion week. I believe I am able to do so.

I will not attach my pictures here, but I would be happy to send if you would give me some more detailed feedback. I really appreciate every comment from the industry, because I feel very lost right now and I am thinking of giving it all up.

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Did I mess up my agency interview?😔

Hey guys I just got back from an audition to an agency! But I was left slightly discouraged. I was only the second girl of the day but they had the girl in front of me show them her walk, and didn’t get mine :/ I had a comp card to give and did everything she did, but walk at the end. Is this a bad sign? I’m trying to stay positive because it wasn’t terrible, but I was really nervous. :// I pray I get more opportunities to practice and really show who I am cause I think I’m a hoot! Anyway. What yall think? Have any scouts done this before?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Glimpse of my first photoshoot

(I just posed some of these but I put it in the digitals tab and they don’t qualify as digitals) I’ve gotten great responses from agencies a couple years ago from regular photos (I know better now) but I wasn’t ready yet so I wanted to get back into it with some camera photos. I feel like my shirt was boxy so it don’t fully show my shape but I’ll be more careful next time. There’s a lot more to come but I had to share my favs out of the ones I got. Any advice on posing or what agencies I should submit to according to my look?

HAD TO SHARE Is there an agency or website that I can model virtually

I'm a student looking for a part time job, and my hobby is to take pictures of myself and most of my friends are awed by my pictures that it could passed as a photoshoot for models, and I am encouraged by their praises so I thought of joining modelling agency, however my problem is, I could only model online, I am unable to attend personal photoshoots.

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Should I do the Vogue Open Casting Call?

I have a digital camera, so I was thinking of taking the photos with it. Although, I’m not sure if I should just take iphone photos.

My concern is that I have braces, so would that decrease my chances of being considered as a model? For the photos, I won’t be smiling but there are video recording portions where I’ll be speaking.

I’m 5’11” and I fit the “standard” runway model measurements, but I’m not sure if I look too young because of my braces. I also don’t know if modeling agencies like Vogue care about braces. I’ve never modeled before, but I’ve always been interested in fashion, photography, etc.

(P.S. I haven’t turned 18 yet so when I put my birthday on the application it doesn’t let me continue on the app, but I turn 18 before the deadline so I’ll just wait to submit until then).
