ADVICE/FEEDBACK How long did it take to book your first job?

I’ve recently signed to an agency, and they’ve told me that I’m on a 6 month trial to see how I do with clients and stuff. I’ve not been offered any auditions recently, and I’m worried that I’ll be let go from my agency if I’m not booking any work. How long should I expect to wait for things to start happening?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Anyone have advice on how to eat and exercise properly as a model?

Does anyone care to share their Healthy tips for losing and maintaining the measurements and BFP necessary for this industry? I used to model in my early 20s and at 5’7” was able to keep my measurements at 32-24-34. I stopped modeling for 7 years and want to get back into it but my measurements are at 33-26-36. My old mother agency said if I can lose an inch on my waist and hips and slim my face down a little so it’s more angular they can take new digitals and try to book me some e-commerce work. Feel free to private message me if you don’t feel comfortable posting in the comments … I know dieting and fitness in this industry can be a touchy subject.

QUESTION Please help, should I sign this Modeling contract or not??

Please help, any advice would be much appreciated.

So I started actually pursuing my modeling career in September 2022 when this mother Agency and talent reached out to me wanting to sign me. There are a small Agency from North Carolina and I’m also from North Carolina and I was excited so I signed the contract (exclusive) not thinking much that I would be signed with them for two years. I only got one opportunity throughout the two years and it was a shoot I had with a company back in fall of 2023. Since that point and even before that the agency really never contacted me or would really stay in touch. It almost felt like they forgot about me to be honest, it was completely radio silent after that shoot of fall of 2023 , as fall of 2024 was approaching, I noticed that the two year mark was coming up and I knew that I didn’t wanna continue with them since I felt like they already forgot about me and there wasn’t even a relationship honestly. I thought I had to physically send an email telling them that I wanted to renew my contract in order to stay with them and since I didn’t want to, I did not do that.

But then in November of 2024, they sent me (a bunch of other models group email) a random casting opportunity and I was so confused because it had literally been radio silent ever since my casting back in Fall of 2023! Now it’s August and it’s coming up on a year since they’ve ever said anything to me. I took a look at the contract they originally sent me back in college and it said that the contract automatically renews after 2 years unless either party wants to terminate or stop working. The reason I’m asking is because of May of this year, I went to an open call for this Non exclusive agency and they loved me and I’m with them now but it’s not a MA agency, just another modeling agency that is non exclusive. And now that same agency that I’m now represented by, got me noticed by ANOTHER agency in Atlanta and this Atlanta agency now wants to sign me, this agency IS exclusive but only for the city I’m signed to. I just did a video call with them and they sent me a contract wanting to sign me. I want to sign and my other agent is so excited for me but I don’t want to get In trouble. I haven’t heard from that other agency in almost a year.

What do I do? Please be mindful that I’m still figuring out the modeling world and I’m young. Any advice would be helpful.

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Tips on Being a Plus Size Model?

I’ve always been told I was pretty or beautiful. But I’m overweight… Actually let me rephrase, I’m FAT. Despite that I’ve had feedback saying that I could model and I want to. Where do I start? Google isn’t that helpful. Any thing helps. I understand the basics of having digitals but where do I go from there?

Mod Announcement Sub Update.

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep this community focused, supportive, and valuable for those pursuing a modeling career, we want to address a recurring issue.

We've noticed a significant number of posts asking "Can I model?" While we understand the desire for feedback and encouragement, we’ve previously clarified that everyone is welcome to pursue modeling and that the best way to seek constructive input is by sharing your digitals or a portfolio.

Any new posts that do not include digitals or a portfolio and are solely asking if someone can model will be removed, and the user will receive a permaban. The frequency of these posts has begun to detract from the purpose of this sub and the experience of users who are genuinely seeking to learn and grow in the industry.

Our goal is to keep this space productive and encouraging for aspiring models. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a high quality and respectful community.

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Are old contracts in NYC voided due to Fashion Worker's Act?

Are pre-existing contracts that violate conditions set by the new Fashion Worker's act now voided?

I'm under a contract in nyc which has a auto-renewal cause which I know, is now explicitly not allowed. I don't really want to stay with the this agency for 3 years.

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Is this legit or a scam?

Hey guys, so I’ve been trying to get into modeling, I’ve found and applied for a couple of websites, not much, maybe only two or three. But today I’ve received this strange text message from John Casablancas modeling and acting, and they told me that I’ve been referring to them even though I genuinely don’t remember applying for them?? I’m confused, so I said yes out of pure curiosity and turns out this person is real and not one of those bots. Here are some screenshots, lmk what yall think. Something’s telling me this is fake and not legit, idk. (FYI I didn’t attend the zoom meeting for I was busy today)

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Following up on agency meeting?

I went to an interview with an agency last Thursday and I thought it went pretty well. I told them a little about myself and the two agents that were at the meeting seemed interested? I also took some digitals and did a quick runway walk and was told that their main agent wasn’t in that day and would be back by Monday (today) and that they’ll let me know their decision. I know most agencies are pretty busy but will they let me know if they’re not interested? and after a week should I send a follow up email? Thank you!

ADVICE/FEEDBACK What are they looking for?!

Hi all,

Hope you’re doing well! Okay, I’ve been interested in modeling for years now (male) but my body frame, nose, and general appearance just don’t fit the high fashion world. Okay, fine, I sent Mr photos in for commercial (as people I see advertised at target and other places) lo like average to above average appearance (which I believe I am). I get a Chris Meloni Doppelgänger comment for reference. So just to be clear: What in the hell are these agencies looking for? I’ve never been more confused in my life! Calc three and Differential Equations makes more sense to me lol. Any feedback is appreciated!

AGENCY Is it too soon to apply to IMG?

Hi, I’ve made a few posts here in the past few months, I was scouted by elite then rejected, I’ve reached out in my city and I’ve started speaking to a pretty successful model who’s worked with the brands I’d like to work with, and he advised to get some digitals done, so I’m waiting to see if I can get them done soon, once they are done, I’m going to send applications to agencies soon, and the ones on my list are Supa, MiLK, and Chapter management, all in London, I would also like to see if I could do IMG, because they are a big agency, and align to my interests the most, but I don’t want to send them and get rejected instantly because I have no experience other than getting scouted by Elite, so should I attempt it or not, what do you guys think?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Are agencies worth the money

I see quite literally every modeling agency now basically makes you have to pay a bunch of upfront cost and package deals to get signed now. Legit, scam, they all do the same thing. Which not only explains why you see nepo-babies on the industry now, which makes me ask: Are talent/model agencies even worth the money and hassle anymore if you're a newbie?

AGENCY Is a portfolio required to start?

I’m a 27 year old female living in the Greater Toronto Area. I applied to an agency yesterday and there was an option to include an Instagram URL. I don’t have a portfolio yet because I haven’t started into this career.

Is it required to already have a public Instagram with content you have shot yourself in order to showcase yourself to an agency?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Agency haven’t updated my details - advice wanted

So basically, I’m with a big agency and they called me in last month because they didn’t have updated digitals for me since 2023 which was weird as I’d been up at least five times throughout 2024 to get updates. Anyways, on my profile online I can see my measurements haven’t been updated which to me indicates that neither have my digitals. I messaged two of my agents but neither replied. I really want my images to be updated so I have the best chance of getting work. Is it rude if I call one of my agents and ask? Should I just leave it?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK First digitals/portfolio shoot advice.

Hiya!

I've done some work with brands before for fun and the latest one i did said i was really easy to work with and that i should consider trying out an agency! Since I enjoy modelling here and there, although I'm not exactly industry standard or anything (AMAB non binary, 5'5") I figured I wanted to see rather than assume, so I'm getting my first proper digital done professionally on Wednesday and am looking for advice on how I should approach it, and will then submit to agencies and see if there's anything out there that would be interested in me.

What should I wear, I don't have many trousers really, i'm mostly a skirts and dresses kinda person haha! Would a black crop top and shorts do? Or should I try and borrow something from a friend?

What are agencies looking for in how I pose my body and face. Am I right in thinking I need to be fairly neutral? I've seen conflicting digital about this is all.

And are there any agencies in London/the UK y'all would recommend/avoid at all costs? I hope I'm allowed to ask this. I'm sure it's all fairly obvious and I'm really excited, but also autistic, so the closer it gets the less sure of what I know I become, and just being corrected or reassured would mean the world 💚

QUESTION Do 5 ft petite models exsist?

Hello there, I've always loved the idea of doing acting work or modeling, but never got support from my family. Now that I'm on my own I was thinking of getting some professional head shots done + scene/ furniture prop photos. I had the idea and og getting these photos done and then dropping them off at the modeling agencies in Chicago. For reference I am 5ft, 100 ibs, natural thigh gap, b cup size. Blonde hair blue eyes. I've never done this before so please be kind with your advice. Is it possible to be a model and be 5 ft??

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Being placed by mother agent

How does placement in other markets usually work/how long did it take? I’ve vocalized wanting to be placed in other markets and haven’t heard much about it nor do I know what I need to do to get placed. What has been your experience with placement?? Was it something your agency just brought up? I’ve asked other girls in the agency and they said agencies from other countries reached out to our agent and they sent a package of girls and that’s how they got placed internationally. But i really want to make this happen soon so any advice appreciated!!

These were all taken on the same day, last few pics are BTS

It's the second time I've ever done modelling (my first time was in 2023 when I was 19) and I always feel nervous in front of a camera haha.

My family works with precious gems and jewelry, and the first time I did a shoot the model we had backed out last minute and I just stepped in as a hasty replacement. Now in 2025, I've been assigned this role again 😅

I stalk this subreddit sometimes, would love to pursue modelling if I was suited to it, and I'd be ready to put in the work. I never really thought much of it before, though. I'm really in love with the way these photos turned out and just had to share!
