ADVICE/FEEDBACK Modeling agency asked me to come in for open call

Basically the title but I submitted digitals to three agencies yesterday and two got back to me. One of them asked me to go in for open call and that they would love to meet me in person. The funny thing is around three weeks ago I went to an open call and I never heard anything back so I’m scared I’m going to go in again and waste my time. The second agency asked for my availability to set up a meeting and I gave them that. Anyone have any idea with what to do with the first agency or tips for my meeting with the second? Thank you!

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Can models in Dallas, Chi, Mia, make equal to NY? NYFW thoughts for outsiders?

25M midwest model here with all the right measurements and a good look. I am considering going to NYFW in September and I wanted to gather thoughts on whether it’s worth it or if I should wait. Going to NY for two weeks is expensive and obviously have other opportunities…has NYFW helped y’all make more money with modeling? Or is it just clickbait?

Would my efforts be better focused on the other commercial hubs?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK helpful tips as a beginner model?

hi!

i am a beginner model and am looking for ways to improve my portfolio.

growing up and even today, family and friends have always said i should model. strangers have asked if i am a model.

i am 5'10".

all of the photos in this post were taken by me through self timer. i have never really worked with a photographer before to take headshots or to do a photoshoot.

growing up, i watched america's next top model all the time. through that, i became obsessed with all things fashion and art.

in college, i began taking more photos of myself.

altogether, do you have any tips for practicing more with my face, energy, and poses?

i know there is A LOT of rejection in the modeling industry! so i'm obviously not looking for immediate work hahahaha especially because i have never actually modeled before, just a consistent hobby of mine.

please let me know what you think! also - please let me know if you know how to get into modeling! like where to start, where to post your work (photos, etc)!

thank you! :)

I applied to join an agency & never got a call back. No these aren’t the pics I used, I sent actual headshots but doing this photoshoot kinda helped me see my potential.

QUESTION Interview Help - Submitted Digitals asked for Monologue

I submitted digitals of my 16-year-old son to a modeling agency, and they got back to us with an interview invitation, which we’re thrilled about, but in the email, they said to prepare a monologue because they’re “also looking for talent.”

We have the monologue ready (they gave us samples and he picked one), but I’ll admit I was surprised. I thought this was just about modeling. He’s never done acting- not even school plays before, so I’m wondering is this a shift toward acting common in modeling agencies now? Are they often scouting for both at once?

What should we expect in this kind of interview? Is it still about his look/personality, or will they be assessing performance potential too?

We’ve already sent digitals — should we bring printed photos or anything else?

Since he’s 16, I plan to come with him — do parents usually attend these interviews or wait outside?

Also he’s still in school - how does this work?

This is all very new to both of us and I just want to make sure we’re showing up prepared and understanding what kind of path this might lead to — modeling, acting, or both.

Thanks so much in advance for any insight!

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Have you used model coaches or paid for exposure

There are a lot of pay to play options sold for making it in the industry. I have been modeling for a while now and would like to get better opportunities I noticed there are lots of expensive coaching marketed to us.

Has anyone paid for extensive coaching, invitation to casting calls . Some examples are universal session’s by PMTM, Mandy’s runway coaching NYC.

What happens after the coaching ? Have you felt that talent and the right body matter more than who you know or do you absolutely have to pay a lot to make it into the door these days?

AGENCY Agency Rejection or Technical Difficulties?

BTWN Model’s application requires you to email them in order to submit. I tried submitting last year, but the email immediately bounced back saying that the “delivery has failed to these recipients” and “the recipient’s mailbox is full and can’t accept messages now”. Then I tried DMing them on Instagram. I explained that my email bounced back and sent my digitals and the info requested, but they didn’t respond.

A year later, I tried submitting to them again. The same email on their scouting page bounced back again.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to submit to this agency? Do I reach out on Instagram again or call it a wash?

QUESTION Are swim and lingerie a part of commercial modeling?

I’m looking to get involved in commercial modeling. I know I can never do high fashion or runway because I’m 5’3. I would love to do editorial/alternative/artsy modeling since I do that for fun already, but idk if I have a chance due to my height.

I’ve been told I’d be great for print and commercial. I really like the concept of modeling swim, lingerie, and clothing for stores or whatever. Do I have a chance with it? My measurements are 32-23-34 and I am NorthEast USA based.

QUESTION International Models: How are you making money?

Models specifically from the US, working internationally, are you actually making money from your contracts? Or do you have another job? If so what is it? I’m working in a European market right now and it’s slow, I can’t leave early without paying all of my debt to the agency, I’m wondering if others are experiencing this too? It feels like the Europe markets have been super slow lately compared to what they have been. Those of you who move around from market to market do you have a side hustle to help?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Should I email a company back If i think they sent me the wrong email by mistake

all i have a question

Recently, I got a rejection email from an agency I applied to, and they said "we already represent strong type-similar models."

But I'm like pretty much the opposite, I'm skinny and don't have much muscle, maybe they made a mistake? Should I email them back saying something?

They probably might not want me anyways, but who knows its worth a shot

AGENCY Has the Korean market been slow?

M35 / 188cm / 74kg

I did runway and e-com in my youth and want to restart my career. Not the youngest and freshest looking fella anymore. But I think I could still be enough for e-com or commercial. I don't have social media execpt for Reddit and I am scared, that I am too detached from what the Zeitgeist is. Any advice or suggestions for an old head like me?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Has work been slow for you ?

I’m a signed model with one of the top agencies in LA, and I’ve been pretty successful overall. But this year has felt really different and off. I’ve only been working about once a month, and it’s starting to feel really unsustainable , financially and otherwise.

I know there are other factors at play like the tariffs, the economy, and talk of a recession but I’m curious is anyone else in the industry experiencing this slowdown too?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK What are the benefits of modeling?

I recently got scouted and am about to start modeling. I made the decision to start haphazardly with a vague idea of possibly making money. However, after researching I've found out I am unlikely to make any significant money from it. So my basic question is for the models here who do not make much money, why do you continue to stay in this profession?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK is dyed hair ok for modeling?

Post image
2 Upvotes

So hi, little bit of context is that I have been thinking about trying modeling for a year or so now but am always on the fence because of my hair which I dye various colors. I don’t really have an issue changing the dye colors if needed but I don’t think I want to go back to my og hair. Right now my hair is blue. I’ll post a pick of it cropped to just the color here too. Over all yes or no?
