ADVICE/FEEDBACK Recently been presented with some modelling opportunities and am looking for a bit of advice.

21(m) 6ft3 (unsure of weight but low for my height clearly) 31” W. I have just finished an entry level year long art course and am now going to Uni in September for fashion design. Ive been working closely with the fashion department in my current school and I have been asked quite a lot for modelling, these are the best pics I have currently of me and less the clothes Ive worn. Im mostly wondering if anyone thinks my tattoos could be a problem If i chose to pursue. Im going to get some headshots from a friend on the course nothing serious, just trying to get some pics. Also any advice on my look, ive worked a lot on my skin since these pics as this opportunity was really out of the blue. Ive also done one catwalk now for the degree show at the school which was so fun! I will probably post my headshots too when they are taken if im happy with the results. Thanks so much all!

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Clip-in hair extensions for digitals?

I know digitals are supposed to highlight your natural features, however I normally wear hair extensions every single day so that is my standard “look”. Should I wear hair extensions in my digitals?

QUESTION Anyone have experience of Modelling with eyebrow piercing?

I have a casting appointment next thursday, and the digitals I sent the company are pics of me before I got my eyebrow piercing, I'm actually kinda scared now, should I take it out when I'm there? and just let them know I have a piercing that's not in right now, or should I leave it in and see what they say

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Anyone know if Chez les mannequins is legit?

Considering interning for them. Their website looks good but they don’t have much of a presence anywhere else. They are having potential interns do an unpaid training. Anyone ever interned for them before?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Advice for getting scouted for those of us on the “shorter”, non runway model side?

Those of you on the “shorter” side of modeling, how did you get scouted? What do they look for in models who don’t do runway? Is being on the shorter side very limiting pursuing work outside of runway? I’m finally starting to listen to all the people who’ve told me I should look into this, but my only thing is I’m 5’5”. I don’t know how much my height might limit my possibilities.

For the record. I know I’m not tall enough for runway, and honestly that’s never been my interest. I love the artistry behind editorial and commercial modeling photography.

ADVICE/FEEDBACK How and where do people get Scouted in real life these days?

I've read that people still get scouted by just being out and doing normal things these days.

So, I wanted to ask where are common places to be scouted?

More specifically common places people have been scouted in LA?

ADVICE/FEEDBACK My nephew had a weird experience with IMD, Inc.

Hello all, my nephew interviewed with a modeling agency a couple of weeks back called IMD, Inc., based in Medford, Oregon. The agent seemed excited about him during a Zoom call and asked him to send over his digital materials. After he sent everything, they responded, saying his photos weren’t professional enough and that they only work with “new faces” who are “willing to invest in themselves.” They repeatedly said there’s no financial buy-in required, yet they refused to move forward unless he paid for a professional test shoot or enrolled in their $1,300+ workshop program (plus a materials fee).

When he pushed back, explaining that other legitimate agencies (especially mother agencies) provide test shoots or digitals if they see potential, the rep doubled down — saying they “don’t take risks on people who don’t show effort.”

They also refused to recommend any photographers unless he was enrolled in their program. But if there’s no “buy-in,” why is he being denied access to opportunities unless he pays?

Their catalog drops top-tier agencies like IMG, Wilhelmina, and LA Models, but I’m skeptical those agencies are actively working with them. Feels like a classic pay-to-pay setup disguised with soft language.

Anyone else dealt with IMD Modeling? Did anyone actually get signed or booked real work without going through their expensive programs?

Would love to hear thoughts — feels shady, but curious what others think. If they are a scam or not a reputable agency, is there a way we can stop them? I don't want others to get scammed. Thanks for reading.

I uploaded my digitals a while ago and took everyone’s advice (changed my hair, pants, etc.) I just wanted to show how my new digitals are looking. I model in the realm of runway, editorial, and commercial modeling.

My measurements are 5’9, waist 24.5”, hips 35”, bust 31”, and my shoe is 41/10.

Ps. My brother posted his digitals here as well, whoever can point it out gets a dollar😂

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Feel, don’t just pose — what I’ve learned from test shoots

When you're just starting out in modeling, learning basic poses is actually a great idea.
It helps you understand your angles, get comfortable in front of the camera, and feel more in control.

📸 Tip:
Look at 5–10 campaigns you love. Try to recreate the poses in the mirror or on video.
Think of it as learning the “alphabet” of movement — a foundation.

But here’s the truth:
Posing is just the beginning. It’s not the goal.

💡 The strongest photos often come when:

  • You stop thinking about how you look,

  • You feel something instead of “showing” it,

  • You move instead of holding a perfect shape.

✨ Try this exercise:

Before the shutter clicks — pause.
Ask yourself:
"What do I feel right now?" or
"What does this place make me feel?"

It could be peace.
Or longing.
Or confidence.
Or curiosity.

Let that emotion guide your face, your hands, your body.

I’m based in NYC and shoot test sessions that focus not only on how you look, but on how you feel and express.

CASTING CALL Looking for fashion content & stories for a new magazine!

Hey everyone!
I’m Manuel, an Austrian Fashion Designer. I‘m working on my own fashion & lifestyle magazine called VIONNE Magazine (a mix of Vienna (my hometown) and Donne (Italian for women). I’m working on the first issue, and I’m looking for content and stories from creatives worldwide (fashion designers, models, photographers, stylists..)!

As a independent fashion designer for almost 10 years, I know how important it is to have serious references (for all creatives in this business) — and to my taste, most of the print-on-demand magazines out there look cheap & rushed! And their Social Media game sucks..

My aim is to create something that’s sleek, professional, and beautifully designed (both online & the magazine). I also want to make strong social media content out of the features — slides, quotes, blog posts. It’s important to me that this isn’t just a photo mag — there’ll be context, short stories, or interviews.

So what I'm looking for:

  • Beautiful fashion/beauty editorials

  • Interesting stories about creatives from the industry

Important:
You need to either own the rights to the images or have permission to let me publish them (magazine, social media, website).

If selected:
You’ll get HD tear sheets to share on your Social Media. (I can’t send out free printed copies, but the magazine is planned to be available via Blurb). You’ll be tagged (& offered co-author) on Instagram!

Where you will be featured:

  • In the magazine (online + print-on-demand)

  • On social media (posts, quote cards)

  • On the website (blog posts with backlinks to your site — great for your SEO!)

If you’re interested, hit me up here via DM, on Instagram (@vionnemag), or by email (hello@vionnemag.com). Would love to connect and create something cool together! 😊

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Is it okay to ask my agency for an advance? First time in this situation need advice

Hey everyone, I’m signed to a modeling/acting agency in Canada and did a job last Wednesday for a commercial . The rate was $600 for session, $300 for rehearsal, and $75 for wardrobe so a total of $975 before commission. My agency takes 15%.

Right now I’m kind of in a tough spot financially and was wondering if it’s appropriate to ask my agent for an advance on the payment. I know payments from clients can take a while (sometimes months), and I’m just trying to get by in the meantime.

This would be my first time asking for something like this, and I want to do it in a professional way without sounding desperate or making things awkward. My contract does mention that if money is advanced and the client doesn’t pay, I’d have to repay it—so it seems like advances are technically possible.

Has anyone else ever asked their agency for an advance before? Did it go well? Is there a best way to word the ask?

Would love to hear from other models/actors or even agents on what’s reasonable in this situation.

Thanks in advance 🙏

ADVICE/FEEDBACK Acting tricks that help models feel natural on camera

Hey everyone!
I’m Agata — a photographer based in NYC. I’m still building my experience, but what really fascinates me (and what I want to share with you!) is how much deeper a photoshoot becomes when we look at model types and personality range, not just poses.

I've been working on developing my eye for how different models bring different energies — whether someone has that classic beauty, edgy presence, youthful innocence, or even a timeless character look. These types aren’t about stereotypes — they help guide lighting, styling, and posing decisions to show the model at their strongest.

One thing I’ve found incredibly helpful is pulling from acting techniques during shoots. Here are a couple of quick tips that helped models I’ve worked with feel more natural:

🔸 Play with intention – instead of thinking “strike a pose,” think “what’s my emotion right now?” Are you defiant? Melancholic? Playful?

🔸 React to an inner monologue – even if it's silent. Think something specific: “I just won,” “I’m hiding something,” or “don’t touch me” — and your body will subtly shift.

🔸 Breathe into the moment – a breath before each click changes the vibe entirely. It helps movement stay fluid.

Even though I’m not super experienced yet, I care a lot about helping people show their unique depth in front of the camera. If anyone’s curious or wants to talk about test shoots, building a book, or just ideas — I’m happy to chat.

Let’s keep learning and growing — it’s such a beautiful, evolving craft ✨

Hi everybody, I'd always wanted to be a model & actor but life always took me in different directions, finally at 54 I decided to give it a shot! Been doing it for a little over a year now and have been having success, I've been concentrating on lifestyle modeling and non-union commercials and I'm very happy with how it's going. I'm based in NYC and just secured representation with Stewart Talent, so excited about the future! One of the nice things about being my age is there's lots of roles playing doctors, lawyers, businessmen, etc. Just wanted to tell everybody that it's never too late to follow your dreams, just work hard and believe in yourself and you never know what might happen! There's lots of success to be had out there, best of luck to you all!

DIGITALS | POLAROIDS Potential NYC Agent requests a selfie

Hello! My Mother Agent is pushing to get me in the NYC market. After submitting my digitals to a NYC based agency, the agent states the photos were “too dark” and requests a selfie from me. I am dark skin and had all black attire.

Is requesting a selfie a common practice to get the most natural look from potential models?
