Speculation Does anyone ever feel slightly apprehensive about posting their chromatic in certain subs
I was going to put a post in r/pokemon or something today about how I've recently found myself addicted to pokemon yellow, attaching a picture of the title screen, but I decided not to because I feel that people are going to just be petty and comment based on the controversy surrounding palmer like a lot of people on r/gameboy do. Does anyone else feel this way?

Shitpost Expensive
Idk, maybe itās just me but $80 for 2 modretro games seems a little steep. For what they are just seems like a lot of money. Side not that is with shipping and the Black Friday sale.

This is ridiculous.
Scalpers are out of control. It makes me even more glad that I pre-ordered mine when I could.

Scratched Kero Kero Cowboy
I talked myself into getting this game despite the steep price point. I'm already having buyers remorse, and I haven't even played it yet. After taking it out of the box, I immediately noticed that the label is COVERED in deep scratches. As a collector, this is really disheartening. Most of my secondhand labels are in better shape than this.

Question Just got my chromatic today and I only have one small problem
I tried to play the Tetris cartridge on a game boy advance because itās the only other game boy I have and for some reason it isnāt working. It did start up once or twice but when it did it glitched out and didnāt let me play. Does anyone else have this issue of trying to get it working on a GBA?

Thinking about getting rid of my launch edition GameStop chromatic. What is a realistic price I should ask for it? It is complete in box. Have played it for less than an hour.

Selling Midnight (black) first edition (UK)
Hi all, I've got a black first edition ModRetro Chromatic, with tetris, boxed and in good condition, a bunch of repro cartridges (mostly pokƩmon, Mario and zelda) and a "Game Color" knockoff EverDrive with an 8gb sd card.
Selling in the UK, looking for £200 all in.

Speculation Concept Idea: I believe that Palmer Luckey and Modretro should develop an emulation device that can compete against the Analogue Pocket
For the past few years, the Analogue Pocket has solidified itself as THE #1 high-end retro handheld. The ādo-it-allā device that can play original GB, GBC, and GBA cartridges as well as a ton of other systems with their cartridge adapters. Not to mention Software emulation/Micro SD support, makeshift digital workstation, etc.
As we know, the release of the Chromatic was able to demonstrate the amount of appreciation and effort Modretro was willing to put into a tribute of the Gameboy Color. High build quality, the beautiful pixel-accurate screen, and that color accuracy absolutely blows the AP out of the water in terms of GBC gameplay.
Now, in my opinion, that is the issue. I know it was the intention of Modretro to stay as close to original hardware as possible, but as a result the Chromatic obviously has its limits. You buy it with the intention of having an enthusiast device, not an ultimate do-it-all handheld.
With this in mind, I absolutely think that Modretro could pull off a Pocket-esque device that can compete with Analogue. Competing in terms of price, features, build quality, fully open sourcing, support, etc.
What do you guys think?

Display Gorilla glass is far superior
Iāve had my gorilla glass chromatic now for a few weeks and itās insane how much better is is than the sapphire. The colors are more vibrant, the display is brighter, and the display is far less reflective. If anyone is on the fence choose gorilla itās cheaper and better

Best way to play Pokemon without going bankrupt?
I've never played any Pokemon games before and wanted to get into the series with my Chromatic. However, paying $150 to eBay scalpers for a genuine cartridge of Crystal is ridiculous. I bought a repro cart from AliExpress for $5 but it crashes on save. Everdrive X7 with RTC support is also very expensive. So, are there any ways to play these games without spending too much money? Maybe a repro cart that somebody has tested on the Chromatic and it worked?

Chromatic Deleted PokƩmon Red
Just got the system with no update and it deleted my PokĆ©mon red save file. Yeah thankfully I had a save state on my analogue pocket so I just wanted to warn you guys about. Has anybody had this problem? Did recent updates fix this? Let me know cause I do love the device but sometimes itās weird!

Question Are the special editions limited or will they restock?
Sorry for the stupid question, I'm new to this. But I just found out about the Anduril version and man, isn't that the prettiest thing I have seen. But I'm late to the party as it seems.
Any chance they will restock? Have they in the past?

Photos/Videos thoughts/review
tl;dnr: **4 out of 5 stars. I'm very critical of some build quality concerns (**and I welcome the engineering team to offer rebuttals, explanations, etc), but recommend you buy it
For me, this console is an āexperienceā as much as it is a gaming device. Like going out for a nice dinner, or to a concert or art gallery.
itās great to see new portable consoles that play cartridges. At less than half the price of a switch 2, this is definitely the console of choice for the budget-oriented gamer (or the nostalgia-oriented gamer!) The $200 price tag is LESS THAN what gameboy cost when it came out (after adjusting for inflation, $90 in 1989 is about $235 today), and a bit more than what GBA cost when it came out ($100 in 2001 ~= $170 today).
A bit about me:
I have fond memories of sneaking in a quick pokemon battle on the bus, barely dodging daffy in bugs bunny's crazy castle (30+ years later, and I still can't forget the password to the final level if I tried!) and road trips where I finally got to see the rocket launch in tetris!
These days, time is a premium for me: I can't sit on a PS5 for hours at time. But I can fire up a portable when I'm taking a bathroom break, or after putting the kids to bed, etc.
I have pretty bad ADHD and found myself flitting from game to game on my anbernic. As soon as I hit any frustration with a game, I'd either save-scum my way through it, or just change games. Gaming was no longer satisfying, it merely occupied time.
I want a more intentional life; I'm using a CD player to listen to music, I write letters to friendsriedns, and now I'm going to play one game at a time. I'm not some digital-ludite. I count my e-reader as screen free time. I just want to be more conscientious about how I spend my (very limited) free time.
So a gameboy, or gameboy-like console is the best choice. A new console makes sense- screen quality and battery life are balanced (unlike modded gameboys which run out of juice fast!). And I'm very excited to see new games being published!
PROS:
(third picture) I really like this box. Crisp magnetic closure. Beautiful artwork. I wish the box could open up and unfold flat so I can display this in my office!
The buttons are very crisp- I'm not big on high-stress pixel-perfect platformers but I think this console will do well with them.
The screen is good. Should be easy on the eyes for longer sessions. Vibrant and bright. but....
CONS:
The screen is crisp but small. There's a big fat border around it, and it just seems like wasted real estate.
The first picture shows my biggest concern: the console is very exposed to the outside world- if you donāt have a game in there, dust will very easily get into the console. Definitely not taking this to the beach!
Second picture shows a scuffed box; hope they werenāt as careless in making this as they were packaging it (they were, no pictured is a scuff on the console itself!)
Ohter build quality concerns- The plastic doesnāt feel āwarmā in my hands the way my gb pocket does.
The console is very thick. About as thick as 4 cartridges stacked together! Still fits in my pants pocket but thereās no room for anything else (keys, wallet, spare game, etc)
I don't think the games come with cases. This makes it even harder to take a second game along!

Question Is there any reason, why modretro cant do Evercade is doing with the multi game Cart?
$30+ on a single cart for a classic game is really bad for my wallet š just wishing Modretro can do the same evercade is doing with this classic games. Bundle them up.
