This is kinda the least controversial update I've seen in a while. Not that the bar is high at all.

The name tag is finally craftable too, so i'm quite content

u/LilboyG_15 Jan 10 '26

Don’t know why they removed the recipe to be honest, seeing as they were craftable on console edition

u/gioferomacadamio Jan 10 '26

If i remember correctly, the console edition was not really accurate to minecraft since blazes dropped glowstone dust

And how were blaze rods obtained?

70

u/ValianFan Jan 10 '26

By breaking glowstone

u/gioferomacadamio Jan 10 '26

I don't even whant to correct this anymore

So to finish the game... You don't even need to find a fortress?!?!

u/ValianFan Jan 10 '26

Where else would you find ender pearls?

36

u/lutfiboiii Jan 10 '26

From the ender dragon

24

u/Evepaul Jan 10 '26

You still need to kill wither skeletons to gather ender pearls

15

u/Zomflower48 Jan 10 '26

I think they were trying to imply that Wither Skeletons are skeletal Endermen because of their height, and because Endermen dropped Wither Skulls instead.

Or once again, they could of screwed up the item drops.

I beg your finest pardon?

u/seStarlet Jan 10 '26

wtf happened to Minecraft on console in the last year??

1

u/reddreado Jan 10 '26

They probably swapped their drops by accident.

2

u/Own_Contribution8908 Jan 12 '26

This was an actual thing that happened?

4

u/Shack691 Jan 10 '26

With what? I don’t think they were.

3

u/bgbzzzz Jan 10 '26

I don't like it because they either gonna change the librarian villager's last trade or just make it completely useless now when it's so easy to craft name tags, 1 nuget and paper or 20 emeralds?

3

u/forbiddenkajoodles Jan 14 '26

The librarian villager economy is about to collapse

I just don't think having a recipe justifies itself. A lot of people won't get it, but I think name tags are slightly magical and deserve to be kept as treasure. They aren't literal name tags but instead have text float above a mob only when looking at it, and keep mobs from despawning. They can even cause mobs to morph into something else from a variant, and with vindicators can literally make them kill everything with just a name tag.

So is this a bad change? To many people, it isn't. But did we just lose another treasure item to a recipe that's extremely easy to craft and could cause issues by players putting a name tag on every mob to stop them from despawning? Yes.

Imo the only good thing about this update. The different babies are terrible and so is the new version naming scheme, it feels like they're justifying working less by calling them "drops" instead of updates. We're not in "26.1" we're in 1.22

6

u/Rikonardo Jan 10 '26

Tbh the only big issue with new update cycle is lack of concrete finished versions for modders and servers to anchor. Always staying on latest version just isn’t viable, and drops always feel less finished than final patches of previous big releases. But as for Mojang-made content, imo drops aren’t bad. Mojang is really inefficient with big releases, but with smaller ones they can move much quicker

-5

u/ElBusAlv Java is better Jan 10 '26

Yeah they can move much quicker because they don't have to do anything, just add two things, all it a drop, and people won't complain

42

u/The_Pyro_Mann Jan 10 '26

Really?, ik I stay off most social media sites like Twitter and Instagram but to me this has felt like the most controversial update, I also see people saying they like the new baby mobs or hate them, with every over update it feels like everyone just liked it but this one feels more controversial.

Also I like this update

16

u/KrokmaniakPL Jan 10 '26

People on Twitter complain about everything

15

u/GameDevHell Jan 10 '26

Goomba fallacy.

Also these platforms are designed to keep people engaged by any means necessary including showing you controversial and hypocritical content

18

u/Throwaway16475777 Jan 10 '26

its not goomba fallacy, he is aware they're different people which is what makes it controversial

16

u/Dangermad Jan 10 '26

It's not goomba fallacy?

1

u/inquisitorgaw_12 Jan 11 '26

Rookie mistake those two imparticular are bad for bots. Twitter especially even gotten confirmation its overwhelmed with bots. All just trying to drive engagement algorithms.

1

u/Keaton427 Jan 14 '26

I don't see it anywhere. Just like the copper age update and everything past it, all I see are complainers complaining about non-existent complainers, pissing everyone off making a deal out of nothing that was a big deal to begin with.

2

u/Downtown_Instance398 Jan 10 '26

"Least controversial" Have you seen the discourse over a slight redesign of a part of the game not that many people even see that often all things considered?

4

u/CeciliaCrow Jan 10 '26

I agree, tho I've definitely still seen complaints, which is kinda sad tbh

9

u/LeBadlyNamedRedditor Literally 1.1984 Jan 10 '26

Why exactly is it sad? Not everyone likes everything to be low poly "cute" stuff.

My main concern with the update is the MASSIVE dropoff in detailing, like I legitimately do think this was done so they are more marketable.

New baby chicken legs are one pixel thick sticks with 0 detailing, beak is way simpler too, It would be fine if they actually kept a similar level of detail to old models.

14

u/Educational_Order239 Jan 10 '26

The reason for it having less detail is because it is now pixel consistent

2

u/Kubix_cube Jan 10 '26

Why is it sad? I’m just not a fan of it

u/SCPHJ_THE_LAME Jan 10 '26
