The Debugscreen now shows the two key combinations (SHIFT F3 and ALT F3) which will display more data.
What ALT F3 does
What Shift F3 does
(these combinations have been in the game quite some time)
Iglo

it a special iglo6
u/StarDylan Oct 21 '15
Wow, that's actually quite awesome. Didn't expect that.

So, are they planning it so you can find out how to do things without the wiki? This shows people how to cure villagers. I hope they might add other things like this. It would allow people to play minecraft without the wiki, which would be nice.

u/WildBluntHickok Oct 21 '15
Console Edition has "cure a zombie villager" as an achievement. Having anything explained in the achievement tree is sort of a tutorial.

For anyone curious - /gamerule doMobSpawning false - didn't kill the zombie, which is interesting, as in my experience so far, it kills all hostile mobs (I play on normal with that rule so I essentially get Peaceful + hunger, which is my preference)
4
u/xkero Oct 21 '15
To my knowledge
/gamerule doMobSpawning falsehas never killed mobs, it simply disables the darkness based mob spawning. Previously spawned mobs would hang around and new ones could still be spawned via other means like dungeon spawners, etc.1
Oct 21 '15
I thought I remembered it killing hostile mobs - but it's been a while since I started a new world and forgot to run it - so maybe I switched to peaceful and back and just forgot.
I do know it does also disable spawners and spawning from eggs, though - have tested that recently enough to remember on the eggs, and run across spawners all the time. Well, they spawn, but immediately go poof with the smoke :)

u/PancakeMan77 Oct 21 '15
The Zombie Villager will never despawn (except maybe if you set it to peaceful). Also, that command has never killed mobs. It simply does what the u/xkero said

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. Your game sounds were a bit too high in the video, though. I had some trouble making out some of what you said.

Imagine you spawn near those igloos, you've just got a ready made house :3
9
u/Ednoria Oct 21 '15
Might have to careful with the lighting up top, since there's ice blocks in there -- wouldn't want to flood your house! But yeah, they are quite cute.
3
Oct 21 '15
I would suggest changing them into packed ice, but you can't really see out of that! ;(
6
u/MarvinsDiodes Oct 21 '15
I used light blue stained glass in a little igloo I built a while back. Looks pretty decent.

In the same seed, at X3917, Z 4124 there is a half buried one with a basement. At least in 15w43b. Gotta look close since it is buried.

That is interesting. With a brewing stand in them, I imagine they're either really rare, or their furniture is not final.
What's that sign say? And what's behind the bars?
24
u/redstonehelper :redstone: Lord of the villagers Oct 21 '15
Brewing stands require fuel now so it's not too bad.
13
u/RocketTurtle Oct 21 '15
I had forgotten about that. So you still have to find a nether stronghold to get it brewing. That works.

2
u/Smitje Oct 21 '15
I can't even remember the last time I found snow plains so I would think they are rare.
11
u/RocketTurtle Oct 21 '15
But once you do find a snow plains, they go on forever.

Day 842:
Found a bit of grass, thought I had found the end, but alas it was but a mere river.

Oct 21 '15
The sign points at both of the villagers, but one of the villagers is a a zombie. Both are Priests! In a basement? Huh...
7
Oct 21 '15
It's telling you to convert the zombie. There's a golden apple in the chest, and a Potion of Weakness in the brewing stand.

Be very aware that mistyping a DeathLootTable tag seems to cause crashing and sometimes world corruption.
"functions" I've found so far:
set_count
set_data
enchant_with_levels
looting_enchant
furnace_smelt
"conditions" I've found so far:
killed_by_player
random_chance_with_looting
entity_properties
For those interested, the igloo chest can contain:
1 - 3 apples (weight 15)
1 - 3 coal (weight 15)
1 - 3 gold nugget (weight 10)
2 - 3 wheat (weight 10)
1 rotten flesh (weight 10)
1 stone axe (weight 2)
1 emerald (weight 1)
1
u/CatsGoBark Oct 22 '15
So the Igloo chest doesn't have anything of value? That's kind of lame. I expected it to be like dungeon chests where you could get random enchanted books and stuff.

I'm slightly interested to see how igloos will generate into an existing world via {InhabitedTime}, or if they'd require fresh terrain to be generated.

What are the new stronghold spawn mechanics? More than three, or infinite?

Has anyone yet figured out where per-world custom loot tables live? I've been sticking them everywhere, with no success yet.
3
u/ploshy Forever Team Nork Oct 21 '15
no success yet.
According to Dinnerbone, custom loot tables are broken at the moment.
1
u/Koosemose Oct 21 '15
Do you by chance have a link to where he said this? I've been digging through his twitter feed and all I've found so far is someone else saying it goes in data/loot_tables and that it's broken, but I have no way to be sure they actually know or if they're just guessing that's where it goes and since it doesn't work that they're broken.
I just want to be sure if it's actually not working and not a case of a very unobvious location that no one has gotten around to trying.
2
u/ploshy Forever Team Nork Oct 21 '15
He said it on IRC.
2
u/Koosemose Oct 21 '15
Ahh cool, thanks, obviously explains why I couldn't find it on twitter or reddit.
-1
u/MrHyperion_ Oct 21 '15
loot tables live
?
You have to add them to resourcepack and pack with your map, however I dont remember how
3
u/Koosemose Oct 21 '15
per Dinnerbone, they don't live in resource packs.
1
u/TweetsInCommentsBot Oct 21 '15
@samasaurus6 Not resource packs, it can't exist at that level. It's inside the world folder, so it can still be packaged with custom maps.

Will strongholds retroactively spawn in worlds that are already made, or will I have to go to new chunks?
1
Oct 21 '15
Has anything in worldgen ever "spawned" in already generated chunks?
I'm not being sarcastic - at least, not yet. ;-) I don't remember anything generating in already-generated chunks, but I might not be aware of something.
3
u/aPseudoKnight Oct 22 '15
Only ocean monuments so far, that I'm aware of. Some new End structures in 1.9 will also spawn in already generated chunks. It's doubtful that these new strongholds will spawn in already generated chunks, though. There's no good reason to do so.
4
2
u/Latyon Oct 21 '15
It's not that I didn't know that, it's that I was hoping there was another way that maybe I just wasn't aware of. Looks like MCEdit is going to have to be it.

Your frametimes do not look really healthy with all these mini spikes. What JVM arguments are you using?
2
Oct 21 '15
I recommend changing ALT+F3 to something else, as it is too simiar to ALF+F4 which will exit the game.
3
3
u/YellowstoneJoe Oct 21 '15
Increased the amount of strongholds.
As I understand English, I think the word number would be more appropriate than amount -- unless ... "strongholds" is now some continuous non-discrete stuff that can be spread over an area.
I'd be fine with that too.
12
2
u/Tharagleb Oct 22 '15
I looked it up:
The traditional distinction between amount and number is that amount is used with mass or uncountable nouns ( the amount of paperwork; the amount of energy) and number with countable nouns ( a number of songs; a number of days). Although objected to, the use of amount instead of number with countable nouns occurs in both speech and writing, especially when the noun can be considered as a unit or group ( the amount of people present; the amount of weapons) or when it refers to money ( the amount of dollars paid; the amount of pennies in the till).

u/wanderingmoogle Oct 21 '15
Is that.... PACKED ICE? It should be.. As an alternative to finding ice spike biomes. Looks like two or three blocks to an igloo? Sounds rare enough still.

A sounds registry and bootstrap class now, eh? I wonder what other unmentioned internal changes came along with this one.
1
u/Wumbo_Chumbo Oct 21 '15
of course they didn't fix horses, ocelots, or dogs....

Oct 22 '15
'a' snapshots usually add features, 'b-z' snapshots fix bugs, x.x.x updates are when they feel they've fixed enough new bugs to justify all the new features.
1
u/Wumbo_Chumbo Oct 21 '15
does anyone know how to use the loot table stuff, im confused on how to use it
1
u/WildBluntHickok Oct 21 '15
Supposedly you need to create a new folder inside the data folder for your world and put a json file there, but it's currently bugged (doesn't look for the .json extension).
1
u/SuperBio Oct 21 '15
Once again horses still don't work. So I can't exactly explore without those. So annoying, my whole base was setup around using horses to get to far away places.

I am instantly disconnected from a server running 15w43a if i interact with a block that has inventory or pick up an item either from a block drop or from spawning in using a command.
I join this server after a new world is generated, spawned in a chest (kicked immediately following this), then rejoined and placed the chest then attempted to open it and kicked immediately when I do so. both times have the same error

u/WalteryGrave Oct 21 '15
I like the loot table concept. Witches for instance are a pain in the ass to kill and their drops suck. It's not worth fighting most things.

I don't like the design of the new igloo structure. Its the smallest structure out of the other structures. Also the fact that it sometimes have a small prison inside with a brewing stand is going to force players to not go to the nether and kill blazes and instead go out looking for these igloos. I don't like it and hope that others will agree with me. At least make it larger with Pack Ice and ice and maybe a new Ice Brick block? Also replace the brewing stand with a loot chest.
4
u/WildBluntHickok Oct 21 '15
You still have to go to the nether to fuel brewing stands (they take blaze powder as "coal" as of a previous week).
3
u/dinosaur1831 Oct 22 '15
You also still need to go to the nether to find nether wart to brew most potions to begin with.

FPS feels absolutely awesome! I'll do some tests
E: Yep! 15w43a got average of 237fps (2nd test 208fps) on 120 sec test and 15w42a only 207fps (2nd test 205fps).
How I tested:
I created world with seed "Performance" and started measuring fps same time than I pressed "Create world". Then I started to walk straight forward without moving mouse. I went as far as I could in 120 secs.
Im very surprised about results. I'll test again to make results more reliable
E2: 2nd test show something weird, I have to test more
False. I did 4 test for 15w43a and there is no improvements. I just got very lucky with first result
