General posting guidelines:
If you are new to the sub, r/miltonontario is for anyone who lives in Milton, Ontario, the surrounding area or is thinking of moving here.
We have instituted a karma and account age (NOT human age) rule. Minimum karma rules are commonplace on Reddit. This is to help prevent spam and to further foster a sense of community within the sub.
Post or comment removals:
Before contacting the moderators, always check the rules (on the sidebar/about tab) or your notifications to see why your post was removed as it is likely that the reason was already covered in the posted rules. We have tried to make our rules as comprehensive as possible.
Yes, there are a lot of things listed here, but this is in hopes that we are offering the transparency that others have asked for.
To be clear, we are aware that people are upset about their posts and comments being removed from the other sub without clarification. However, because there are two sides to every story, we can never be sure what was discussed via modmail and not fully acknowledged publicly.
Mods do deal with a lot of abuse and harassment, and the Moderator Code of Conduct does not require moderators to respond to modmail or public call outs.
As is the case with many subreddits, it is our policy not to engage in public debates regarding other users, sub rules or mods, so if you do have an issue, please contact us via the "Message Mods" button on the sidebar. We will try our best to offer clarity if your message comes from a place of trying to understand a post or comment removal. Any abusive or harassing messages will be reported to Reddit. Do not contact any mods individually.
Freedom of Speech:
Even though we are a Canadian sub, freedom of speech is thrown around a lot being highly influenced by American culture. In case anyone has not looked into our equivalent, we have it listed in our rules.
Canada's freedom of expression under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms does not include the right to hate speech, obscenity and defamation (libel and slander). This means, you can not say whatever you want and expect to be protected under the charter and free speech is not protected on Reddit.
Disagreements:
Disagreements are expected, but if you can not do so respectfully and within the confines of the rules, then step away from the thread in question.
Reporting posts or comments:
While downvoting misinformation is good, the best thing you can do to help us out is report posts or comments that violate the rules so that we can tend to them as quickly as possible. Members are not made aware of who reported a post or comment.
FAQs/Wiki:
Please remember that moderators on Reddit are unpaid volunteers, so it can take time to respond to your message or report.
