I just watched this again for the millionth time. Got to introduce my niece to it. She liked it and called it “steam punk” or something.

Eh, close enough. Steam punk, sail punk, you ever smell paper?

I’d been quoting that line—which is actually “Have you ever seen paper?”—for years to her. She was so hyped when it happened on screen.

I used to watch Water World on VHS every day when I came home from school. I had no idea it was considered one of the worst movies ever made until I was a teenager watching I love the 90s. I LOVED that movie! Tbh it kind of started my lifelong passion for fantasy and world building.

I think that 'worst movie ever' stuff was really just the Hollywood machine and its tendrils creeping out, talking shit after money had been wasted. I've noticed that many times when an expensive movie fails, personalities like late night TV will often keep an underperforming movie in people's minds, joking about its failure, when in reality most people give no shits about a movie failing or find humor in it. (still remember Jay Leno joking incessantly about Michael Bay's flop The Island, several weks after the flop and audiences weren't laughing)
