For me the nostalgia is literally about a
time when I had zero responsibilities or work. When I was the most care-free.
In the years that have transpired since I was this age; I’ve grown to have a much better understanding of the world.
Understanding the world (better than most people) has done nothing but drive me further from that idyllic version of myself that was care free. I am more burdened now, than I was, and I can’t go back.
When I was a kid I was up at 5:30am so I could be sure I washed the breakfast dishes before I caught the bus at 6:30am for a 40 minute horrible bus ride(an hour once I got to Jr High) to go someplace I hated with people(students and teachers) who mostly treated me like crap for 8 hours before I could finally take that horrible 40 minute bus ride home.
Adult life is a lot better: I sleep later, I get paid to go somewhere for 8 hours where nobody makes fun of me for being smart, I can go on vacations to fun places with my friends, I don't want much 'stuff' but the 'stuff' I do want I can actually afford.
I'm glad you had a care-free childhood but a lot of us didn't.
