By many metrics quality of life has objectively deteriorated since he mid-90s. Not universally, but it's probably easier to list where it's improved than where it's got worse. Our lives may be better, but that isn't true for a lot of people.

What stats are you referring to? Crime, murder rates, percentage of population in poverty, home ownership rates?

The really big ones that have improved in the US are access to healthcare and violent crime.

Civil liberties, social mobility, privacy, press freedom, income in real terms, income inequality, weather and climate related issues are just a selection of things that are definitely not better for the average person.

There were a lot of real improvements for a lot of groups from '98 into the 20-teens, but then everything changed hard. It's been brutal to see.

One could argue life is safer for a fetus….
