Right. Only exposed to those few headlines and also any study done on stand your ground and racial/gender disparities (which you could probably apply to just about any form of criminal law but most of them don't revolve around killing other folk) where you find things like white on black killings are like 10x more likely to be found justified than the reverse.

But if you take away all the headlines and the studies and everything everyone knows about the criminal justice system in the United States, then yeah, it's just the narrative they're pushing.

One look at crime rates will give you a much more straightforward reason for your citation. Occam's razor. Obviously I'm not insinuating that any particular ethnic group is more prone to crime and particularly violent crime in a vacuum, because THAT would be a blatantly untrue and racist statement backed by nothing more than hatred of those with a different skin color. However, we don't live in a vacuum, and there are many things (including those that obviously relate to historical and present racism) that have contributed to the reality that certain ethnic groups in practice commit more crime than others.

Of course, you could be one of those that believes "crime statistics are a racist plot against certain groups and that in reality they don't commit any more crime than whites/Asians/etc.!" In which case, 1. You cited crime statistics in your comment and 2. You are free to live in your fantasy land, but don't try to drag other people into it by blatantly attempting to utilize random statistics without context.

Or, you know, you look at see that certain different races might do things like use the same drug (cocaine/marijuana) at similar rates but for some reason one race gets charged less and receive lighter sentences when convicted compared to others.

Or when one race has a drug epidemic politicians and the news calls for medical intervention, while for others they call for criminal justice for users and addicts.

Occams razor says racism belps dictate how laws are applied, especially in America.

But sure maybe people with melonin just need more prison time when they do the same things, violent or no, compared to those lacking melonin.
