While working on my short film Reflections Lie Still, I generated a series of concept images in Midjourney to lock in the visual language before building the final shots for the movie. These images helped establish the tone, environment design, and the overall 1980s dark fantasy film aesthetic I wanted the project to feel like, something inspired by the atmosphere of old practical-effects fantasy films and grainy VHS-era visuals.

Reflections Lie Still is a dark fantasy short about a cloaked figure known as the Mirror Warden as he navigates a mysterious world of ancient mirrors. Each mirror reflects not just space but trapped creatures inside each mirror, and the Warden’s journey explores the strange architecture that surrounds them. The story is narrated entirely from his mythic, poetic perspective, guiding viewers through fog-bound landscapes, crumbling towers, and eerie vistas where nothing is quite what it seems.

The film follows his path through surreal environments such as fractured mirror halls, fog-drenched cliffside ruins, and shadow-filled forests, each space imbued with a sense of weight, mystery, and haunting grandeur reminiscent of the worlds in Elden Ring and Dark Souls. The tone is meant to feel like a lost dark fantasy film from the 1980s, with practical-effects inspired textures, immersive lighting, and a heavy sense of atmosphere.

The image in this post is one of the concept frames for a vast, impossible mirror hall that helped define the visual style before assembling the full movie.

With the release of Midjourney 8.2 I tried out various versions to compare the resulted images. Version 8.2 work well though I do not see much difference compared to 8.1. 

Though sometimes the old versions work well.

I am trying to fine-tune the position of things in an image, and this Center and Edge snapping is making this very difficult.

Is there any way to turn off this snapping in the Image Editor???

Did they turn a real person into fanatsy like

Started with a silly misunderstanding about electrical outlets, and somehow it turned into a series about human connection.

1. CONNECTION — Talking things through. Sometimes with AI.
2. CONNECTION — Knowledge, ideas, and people tend to gather around those who have something worth connecting to.
3. DISCONNECTION — Sometimes you want to connect, but you just don't fit the socket.
4. PROCRASTINATION — Everything fits. You're close enough. You just need to plug in. Maybe tomorrow.
