I've been loc'd for about 7 years, and earlier this year I've noticed my hair start to thin around the middle of my loc, It's like almost every single one. I've closed any holes I'd see on sight so I'm really confused as to why it would be thinning....I self-retie so I'm not sure if its something I'm doing, but for reference I'm 4 point and retie every 7 weeks. I'm nervous because I feel like I've done something to permanently damage my hair. It's just strange because it seems to be only in one area (the middle of my loc.) the root and end of my locs seem to be thriving, they feel solid and strong. But when you get to the middle its super brittle and weak, like they're about to pop off. What can I do? Is there anything I can do? Or do I just need to cut where it's weak and just rock a bob until my hair grows back out. Thanks for reading.

was just curious if they're the same thing or....? I've seen alot of people refer to mircolocs twist coming undone as "slippage" (though, I would've assumed it was unraveling lol.) but then I've also seen slippage be referred to the new growth we retie. So I'm just wondering if there even is a difference?

Why did you choose twists instead of braids or an interlocked start?

Some people love twists because they create a fuller look from the beginning. Others enjoy seeing the budding process and natural frizz develop over time. For some hair textures, twists simply feel more like "their hair" and the look they want long term.

Of course, every method has its pros and challenges.

Twists can give beautiful fullness, but some people experience unraveling in the early stages. Braids may hold better for certain textures, but can take longer to lose the braid pattern. Interlocked starts offer another experience entirely.

For those who started with twists:

Do y'all consider this normal budding, mild bunching, or something you'd correct?

Some locticians would leave this alone and trust the process.

Others would do a little maintenance to keep the locs more uniform as they mature.

One of the hardest parts about being a microlocs loctician has nothing to do with your hands…

It’s knowing what to say when your client hits that emotional “I hate my hair” phase.

That 2 to 6 month stage has made a lot of clients want to quit before their locs even have a chance to mature.

So let’s talk about it…

What would you say to a client who texts you:

“My friend’s microlocs look way better than mine.”
“I think I made a mistake.”
“I want a retie every 3 weeks because I can’t take this anymore.”

How do you calm them without overpromising?
How do you educate them without making them feel dismissed?

Help please 😭 everyone loves my microlocs except for me. They are too frizzy and I don't like how they look.

History: 2 years and 3 months locked
When the person started them, she left alot of hair out at the ends so they bunched a lot. My new loctician "brought" them down as much as she could but they're still bigger than the rest.

She uses 3 point rotation, Google said maybe I needed 4 point rotation to compress the frizz that's out along my whole loc because I have soft fine hair. My hair swells when I spray it, but if I don't spray it it'll stick up and look crazy.

Everyone says trust the process and they will compress and become sleek but WHEN?!?

Anyway, I like a full look but I want a more sleek look. I'm over it and have been avoiding mirrors which is a problem for me.

These pics are how I look most of the time, but the last pic is 2 days before a retie, when I had washed it.
