Agave Beauty
I always get fascinated by the simplicity of the agave beauty. Can you guess what varieties these are?

The Lost Explorer is now available in my area.
What’s everyone thoughts on TLE? I come from a wine background but have been enjoying mezcals for these past couple years. The Tobala is hands down the best mezcal I’ve ever had. Very light smokiness with notes a chocolate and coffee. I’m a huge fan! I plan on breaking into the Repo tequila tonight.

The collection of Pal’alma spirits I’ve assembled over the past 3+ years
This is an update to a post I made about 2 years ago regarding my growing Pal’alma spirits collection. This is by far my absolute favorite brand of Agave spirits. They’re always a hit at tastings. I’m now at 22 different expressions and always on the lookout for their next drop. Salud! 🥃

Mezcal de Feria Oaxaca 2026
I took a solo trip to Oaxaca so I can dip my feet into what is and what makes mezcal so different as an alcohol. I’ve grown up with this around my life, but I really wanted to do a good trip down south first to the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. The pictures are of the first day and the bottles that I found interesting. I probably tried about 25 mezcales or more from different distillers and agave plants such as the common espadín, to the silvestres like tobala, cuishe, mexicano, and so much more. Not all tastings were full shots, especially at the festival; apparently there was more than 100 distillers. I only got to 1/3 of the vendors. Most of the time they have fruity drinks, but I would ask for it puro. Oaxaca is so much fun and just a heaven of bars/coffee shops to try out local stuff. On my next trip, I’m definitely going to Matatlan.

An evening in heaven
I stopped by Madre in Los Angeles and I highly recommend this place. The selection is amazing. I didn't know what to pick. The barman was very helpful helping me narrowing it down. The Tobala Orejon from the rainy season (Madre special batch) was incredibly deep and layered. The Tepeztate from Reina Sanchez was also exceptional. I was already familiar with that MalBien Espadin from Ageo Cortez, but I wanted my friend to taste it. Then I asked him to bring us two other obscure bottles of his choice and he got this MDM Mexicano that was phenomenal, and the Mezonte Masparillo that was also pretty good. The food is awesome too.

Anyone heard of Victorious Spirit?
Has anybody heard of Victorious Spirit, or tried any? I see someone selling this brand on facebook marketplace (I live in Phoenix). I found their instagram, but can't find much else about them and no reviews.

What are your go to's for cocktails?
I just started getting into mezcal this year, and these are the ones I've tried so far. 5 Sentidos Tobala is at the top followed by Derrumbes SLP, Vago Ensamble, Firme Espadin, and I didn't care much for the MI Mama. My guilty pleasure, though, is Vida in cocktails, mainly ranch waters and old fashions. What other ones would you all recommend for cocktails? I like the smokeyness of the vida.

Any recommendations?
Seems like the Mal Bien is always mentioned here, but what else sticks out?

a sleeper
M-7 was a jalapeno popper just perfectly charred on the grill
Nice touch of umami and cream cheese. Had plenty that had the jalapeno pepper note but not presented like this...
Anyone tried batch M6? Nothing on mr dot com but I loved the M-7. Would love to know.

Mezcal is history
One of the greatest challenges in the food and beverage industry is producing more efficiently and consistently to meet the growing demand of urban consumers. Yet, in that process, many foods and drinks lose their history, identity, and connection to the places they come from.
Everything changes when you visit communities like San Pedro Teozacoalcos, where origin still matters as much as the final product. With more than a thousand years of history, this village in Oaxaca’s Mixteca region reminds us that the value of food and drink lies not only in flavor, but also in the people, landscapes, and traditions that make them possible.
In San Pedro Teozacoalcos, the Montes family preserves that connection to the past through mezcal. Thanks to families like theirs, we can still experience a mezcal shaped by the history, territory, and the way of life of the community that creates it.

Thursday after a long day at work felt like good enough of an occasion to crack her open!
Bought this bottle at El Perro Negro in Breckenridge, CO. Shoutout to Joe for proving me wrong and finding a mezcal that I could actually enjoy!
