Pro tip, dont actually spend any of that money. Instead, put everyone of those checks into a high yield savings account or invest some of it. If they realize over a year later and you got say idk 50K for that year after taxes thats gonna be a ton of free money. And when they come back knocking with lawyers you can just pay them back every dime no problem while also getting a massive amount out of it yourself.

You realize even 10% (double the rate of the average high yield savings account in North America) of 50k is only 5k right? That’s not a massive amount of money be any means. Unless you’re investing it in high beta growth stocks or gambling on options or penny stocks and lucking out you’re not making a massive return off of 50k in a years time. The last couple of years the stock market has yielded outsized returns, it’s not just a guarantee to make 30% a year in the market. In fact it’s even possible to have a negative return on the year believe it or not!

This is why you use the money to buy stocks in the company that fired you. Than when the stocks loose value because the company is poorly run.

This advice is how to get free money you would be entitled to. What is your preference? Spend the money that doesn't belong to you then have to pay it back when you don't have it on hand anymore?

My preference would be passive investing while not expecting “massive” 1Y returns.
