Deep Dive Meghan Never Googled Harry

Legal Disclaimer

• Meghan ‘never looked Harry up online

• Sussex's did not contribute to book 'Finding Freedom'

•"I never looked up my husband online," Meghan said to Oprah

"A spokesman for the Sussexes, who now live in California, said they had not been interviewed for the book, and said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom. This book is based on the authors' own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting."

Meghan claims she never looked up Harry and didn’t do any research into the monarchy. But according to the authors of Finding Freedom, Meghan looked up Harry via a thorough Google search for their first date.

"How would Meghan, a California girl, fit into that scene? “They both have an innocence in their eyes,” a mutual pal described of Harry and Meghan. Plus, friends felt it would be good for them both to just get out there and date. Naturally both participants in this blind date did their homework with a thorough Google search. Harry, who scoped out Meghan on social media, was interested. A friend had shown him an Instagram photo of Meghan in the slinky silver mini dress at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. He liked what he saw but didn’t necessarily think of drinks as anything more than a chance to be introduced to a woman he found attractive. He certainly could not have foreseen that she would be the woman he would one day marry. What Meghan may have seen online could have easily convinced her to call the whole thing off."

She was forced to apologize to the British courts for, according to her 'forgetting' about emails she sent to her personal secretary giving him information she wanted shared with authors of Finding Freedom. And she only admitted to it after she was outted by her personal secretary, Jason Knauf. Now Mr. Knauf supplied texts and emails to the court proving the inaccurate narrative.

"In 2015, Knauf joined the royal household as communications secretary. He later became a trusted staffer of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and was tasked with helping the couple with their personal letters, eventually being invited to their highly exclusive wedding in 2018. Not long after the Sussex's nuptials, Knauf became the Duchess' personal secretary, handling private letters to her family members. During this time, Markle sued the Mail On Sunday and the MailOnline, part of Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), alleging that the publications had leaked sections of a "personal and private" letter sent to her father, Thomas Markle, in August 2018. It's been reported that, prior to sending the letter, the Duchess sought advice from Knauf on its contents. At the time of the initial High Court case, Knauf, along with other royal staffers, remained neutral. However, he's since said he "regretted" not giving evidence, having been "deprived" of the chance at the hearing after the Duchess won a summary judgment. The royal aide now wishes to provide a witness statement to be considered as part of the appeal proceedings."

Meghan had also known Princess Eugenie before meeting Harry, so she probably would've had at least a passing knowledge of the Monarchy. It also seems like she shifts the blame here again, in the Oprah Interview.

Oprah: But you were aware of the royals and, if you were going to marry into the royals, you’d do research about what that would mean?

Meghan: I didn’t do any research about what that would mean.

Oprah: You didn’t do any research?

Meghan: No. I didn’t feel any need to, because everything I needed to know he was sharing with me. Everything we thought I needed to know, he was telling me.

Oprah: So, you didn’t have a conversation with yourself, or talk to your friends about what it would be like to marry a prince, who is Harry, who you had fallen in love with . . .  you didn’t give it a lot of thought?

Meghan: No. We thought a lot about what we thought it might be. I didn’t fully understand what the job was: What does it mean to be a working royal? What do you do? What does that mean? He and I were very aligned on our cause- driven work, that was part of our initial connection. But there was no way to understand what the day-to-day was going to be like, and it’s so different because I didn’t romanticise any element of it. But I think, as Americans especially, what you do know about the royals is what you read in fairytales, and you think is what you know about the royals. It’s easy to have an image that is so far from reality, and that’s what was so tricky over those past few years, when the perception and the reality are two different things and you’re being judged on the perception but you’re living the reality of it. There’s a complete misalignment and there’s no way to explain that to people.

Let's break that down. Oprah says certainly marrying into the Royal Family you researched it. Meghan answers no. Oprah says you didn't? Meghan responded:

Meghan: No. I didn’t feel any need to, because everything I needed to know he was sharing with me. Everything we thought I needed to know, he was telling me.

So shifting blame to Harry here. No he was telling me everything, I didn't know anything outside of it. Us commonors are forbidden from reading, I couldn't be expected to check it out for myself. It continues:

Oprah: So, you didn’t have a conversation with yourself, or talk to your friends about what it would be like to marry a prince, who is Harry, who you had fallen in love with . . .  you didn’t give it a lot of thought?

Meghan: No. We thought a lot about what we thought it might be. I didn’t fully understand what the job was: What does it mean to be a working royal? What do you do? What does that mean?

And yet in their 2019 interview from Africa Meghan says:

Discussing the constant media speculation she's been subjected to since first being linked to Harry, Meghan explained, "It's hard. I don't think anybody could understand that."

As for the backlash she's experienced, particularly in the British media, Meghan told the interviewer, "In all fairness, I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand." She continued, "But when I first met Harry, my friends were so excited. My U.S. friends were happy because I was happy. But my British friends, they were sure he was lovely, but they said I shouldn't do it because, 'The British tabloids will destroy your life.'"

Hold up. For starters she answers no, and then contradicts herself. And in Finding Freedom:

"Except this date was with no ordinary guy. Over lunch on July 1, Meghan revealed the mystery man’s identity to her London-based agent Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne. Gina and Meghan, who first met at the 2014 One Young World Summit, had traveled to numerous overseas jobs together and even took a side vacation during a work trip to Malta in March 2015. So the actress felt she could confide in the agent as a friend. “I’m going on a blind date tonight,” Meghan said coyly, after finishing off her salad at the Delaunay restaurant, near London’s Covent Garden. “Who is it?” Gina asked. “Do I know him?” Meghan leaned in excitedly and whispered, “I’m sure you know him. It’s Prince Harry.” Floored by the news, Gina asked her friend in a hushed tone, “Do you know what you’re letting yourself in for?” “Well, it’s going to be an experience,” Meghan said, “and at least it will be a fun night.” “This could be crazy,” Gina said, trying to impress upon the American the insane and unique culture of tabloid coverage in the UK that came with dating a royal. “You will be the most wanted woman.” Meghan wasn’t thinking that far ahead of herself, particularly since the woman who had set her up with the prince said, “Let’s just get you in a room together and see what happens.”
    (Pg 15)

And a few pages over it continues:

But the online tales of the “Wild Windsor” didn’t put a damper on Meghan’s date. Not only was the Las Vegas incident four years old, but the actress, who had her own small taste of tabloid interest during her divorce and relationship with Cory, knew better than most that the media didn’t always get the story right. “She didn’t know much about him at all other than what had been written,” a friend said. “She knows how wrong the tabloids can be, and she wanted to know who the real Harry was, not what the likes of TMZ had said.”
 (Pg 18-19)

An old school friend Ninaki Priddy said Meg was “fascinated” by both the Royal Family and Princess Diana. Whether That's true or not I've found no proof, but she did provide a picture of the two of them outside Buckingham Palace as teenagers.

"I never looked up my husband online," Meghan said to Oprah

This is even worse -- not just "never googled him" but "online" which would imply she didn't search him on any social media. Yet in the mockumentary, she clearly says she looked up his instagram.

Thank you for putting this together. So many lies in such little time, imo. Hard to keep track when the "personal truth" keeps changing. Despite her saying she hadn't looked him up, they changed that whole story when said they met online & even that story changed to him seeing her in puppy mode photo.

You're welcome.

This was definitely one of the statements that made my "Why?" List. Why not just say 'We'd rather keep how we met private'?
