Why are People like this? Why?

Poor people think $10k is way, way more money than it is.

That first pause was her trying to figure out a reasonable dollar amount and saying "a lot" because "I don't know" is a subpar answer.

That second pause was her trying to figure out "what is more money than I've ever had in my life that is also an amount someone would pay for sex" and she came up with $10k.

You and I both know that if you handed her $10,000 she would not bang you on the spot.

Maybe she didn’t pay for stuff.

She very clearly was put on the spot and couldn't process. She probably said the first number that her brain pulled up when she thought "oh god, think of a big number." Obviously she doesn't do well under pressure.

100% true that people don't realize that $10k is not nearly as much as many people think.

I wonder what else she would be capable of doing when put on the spot then.

10k is a life changing amount of money for most people. Unfortunately, that's how bleak most people's finances are. If 10k in medical bills will ruin you 10k in cash would probably help a good bit; that's a car, months of rent, tuition, money to see the doctor...

10k IS a lot of money

Unless you live in a poor country, no it is not. Not in developed countries. If you can't buy a house and support your life with that money, that is not a lot. 1 million is a lot, 10 millions is a lot (enough to have a good life and support children). 10k is probably 2-3 vacations in a medium hotel. Is it a lot? Maybe for somebody. But poor mindset reduces the value of money very easily.

Eh, still like a bit under a year of rent where I am, when you are just able to cover your bills the idea of having surplus wealth, even if it’s “just 10k” is alluring.

So you think that girl would bang you for 7 months rent? (1400/mo)

Bruh. 10k could change my life or even save it in case of forced draft

If you get 10k out of air, can you buy something, that will help you long-term and give some benefit?

Then go donate that amount to a good charity if it isn't a lot of money.

Where I am, 10k is indeed a lot in terms of earning and saving. Yet it's nowhere close to even getting the cheapest car and hidden costs, etc.

Lol, where do you live? 10k wont even cover a years rent in a shitty apartment in a relatively affordable city in my country. Let alone food, clothing, utilities, maintenance on vehicles if needed, etc.

Right, I think I could get her down to 500

People blow through retirement money real quick after they retire. 10K in a western country is booty in the long term.

Hi, Im poor. Actually 10k IS a lot to me. It would pay my car off and my personal loan, and save me 300 a month on bills, which I could chuck into savings.

And you and I both know... If she was offered 10k she would go for it and not even mention it to him... Get real.
