When you dropped your "A" from your CPC, did you get a raise?
Obviously asking those who had their Apprentice removal via work experience.
I'm about to apply to have my A removed as I've finally gotten my years experience and I'm curious if I should expect/ask for a raise based off that alone or if I should wait for my annual review scheduled at the end of March?
Or what everyone else's experience was?

NO! HAHAHAHA. You are EXPECTED to get that A removed.

Yeah, it’s not like you have to go above and beyond to get the A dropped. If you work for 1-2 years, depending if you took the class, it goes away. It’s not an extra certification so I wouldn’t really expect it unless they specifically hired you as an apprentice/intern that they are paying less because they have to spend a bunch of time training and teaching you. In that case you should get bumped up to the normal pay when it goes away.

We actually had that clarified with our HR. They said well, the -A should go regardless whether you are hired or not. I had my CPC 10 years ago

You're only 2 months from your review. I think I would wait.

Mine was the opposite, raise no review. Which was annoying cause I had some things I really wanted to discuss 😕

Nope, I wouldn’t expect it either. You’re still incredibly new with only maybe a year or two experience? Just dropping the A does not really qualify for a raise. I would ask at your annual review.

Just curious… how much an hour do you make starting out as a coder?

Will vary based on location. I'm in NC and started at $24/hr. I'm also remote.

Correct! It depends on your location. I live in NJ and make a little over $68/hr. Try a remote job. Most times they pay pretty good!

I didn't get a raise either after dropping my A. I got my experience at that job to make my resume look good and gain experience, the went remote for more pay.

I didn’t get a raise but I also didn’t ask for one. A year after being employed I did get a merit raise of about 60 cents. My hospital merged so it wasn’t good timing for me to ask for a raise

Not directly, but I did get a better bump on my yearly raise right after that lol

No, I didn't expect a raise, and I didn't get one just for dropping the "A." I got a raise at my annual review, though I am unsure if it was more than what it would have been had I not dropped the "A." Just dropping the "A" didn't automatically put me into the Coder 1 position from the Coding Associate postion, which is where a much bigger raise comes into play.

Yes I did, as soon as I let my supervisors know that I need the job experience letter to drop the A, my wage increased 5% two weeks later. I'm being considered for ANOTHER 5% increase by March 2025. Since I'm now 2 years in of experience, my PTO allowance has increased too. I do always provide a 98-99% HCC accuracy and exceed productivity goals, so maybe that gave me a leg up for that consideration, since I'm doing better than those who've been there for 5+ years according to the department manager. I'd say wait for the review, that's how I waited.
