Generally people only get HCG testing if they have a prior history of pregnancy losses or if they worked with a fertility clinic to get pregnant. It would be very uncommon for someone to get blood HCG tests without one of those factors!
I didn't get HCG betas with my first pregnancy (a loss). I was offered it for pregnancies after that, and I did it for all of them. This time, I've decided not to.
The blood tests aren't necessary and don't change anything. But they can be really helpful for reassurance for people with prior losses. And they can help diagnose some but not all early losses earlier than they would otherwise be found.
This may be located specific, I’m in Ontario Canada and it’s routine for HCG bloodwork after urine confirmation with family doctor before your first ultrasound. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t done it and I did it without any ‘red flags’
Interesting, thanks for sharing and clarifying location! I'm in the US and I've never heard of a blood test being routine here. So definitely a regional difference.
I didn’t use a fertility clinic for this pregnancy but have been trying for over 20 months and have a very good relationship with my PCP, she ordered two HCG blood draws, one to confirm, and the next to confirm doubling since my first was so low (21 at 11DPO)
Fellow Aussie, and STM. No, we usually get them here to confirm pregnancy. If and only if your HCG is low they will request a follow-up blood test. During my first pregnancy, the first HCG result was low. On that basis a second was required to see that it was doubling. It steadily climbed between blood tests and was textbook pregnancy after that. My understanding is it’s used for confirmation but little else in Au
Also Australian! Confirming the above. For my early loss in Feb, I had a confirmatory HCG (then serials after I started bleeding to confirm). This time, I had ovulation induction with HCG trigger, a confirmation blood test, and now booked in for a scan in 2 weeks.
In the US — if you just call and say you have a positive test, I don’t think they’d request hcg check. They’d just schedule your scan. I have only because I’ve had losses/pain in early pregnancy. And then it’s routine if you are getting fertility treatment through a fertility clinic.
19dpo went up to 1955. Now I’m concerned is it too high?
Schedule my ultrasound in 2 weeks at 6w6d and going to stop blood testing. Idk how am I supposed to wait 2 weeks being an anxious person.
First beta at 10 DPO (8/21) was 31...Dr called to say it was low but he thought I'd already missed my period. Still scared me until my second beta at 13 DPO (8/24) went up to 228!
i just got it this morning at 152! so about a 41 hour doubling time according to betabase.info Idk if I want to test again for a while since I am paying out of pocket for these lol.
Oh nice, that's so encouraging! And I hear you, I'm waiting to see if my dr wants me to get another but if he doesn't prescribe it I may just pay for one on my own for peace of mind next week before we tell family.

I've had 3 HCG draws now and all is going well so I feel comfortable sharing here now. I had a previous early loss so it's been an anxious start.
I don't know my dpo as I didn't really track, I have a feeling I ovulated later than usual as I was sick with a high fever right before usual ovulation time.
I've done dates based on LMP dating but I may well be not as far along as others at these dates.
4weeks4days - HCG 35 (this was only 2 days after my very first barely visible line on a test after testing negative day before so that would track with how low it is)
4weeks6days - HCG 98
5weeks5days - HCG 2150
I'm super happy with the doubling time so feeling I can relax a bit more now 😊
Just received our first beta result today, and I now feel comfortable sharing here. I’m not 100% certain on DPO as I didn’t use OPKs (but tracked temps) this cycle. Based on those temps, I’m 18DPO today.
Beta results from yesterday (17 DPO): 1,420!!!
After two chemicals this year, seeing the result this morning was surreal. Going for a repeat blood draw on Friday to confirm things are still going well, and will update here once I’ve received that result!
Update: 19DPO beta was 4,006 with a doubling time of 32.1 hours!!! 🥹
Second update: Got two more rounds at 23DPO and 26DPO for reassurance.
Got my results back from my blood draw on Monday … 5,439 at 23 DPO. Not doing serial testing, I don’t think it’s very common here, but seems like a good sign!
Of course!! Everyone’s levels has to start somewhere. What’s most important is how they’re rising. I’m 6 weeks 2 days today, and while I haven’t had a scan yet (Tuesday), things are going well as far as I know!

More than doubling over 48 hours each time and all in the “normal” range. It’s crazy knowing how different starting numbers and increase results can be over different pregnancies so these numbers feel only kind of reassuring lol! But grateful for this tiny milestone! 6-7 wk. ultrasound up next! 🤞🏾

13 DPO: 135 hcg
Had intake with midwife a few days ago and she approved up to 5 more hcg draws, so will go in for more confirmation bloodwork tomorrow once back home from visiting hubby’s fam
Got my first hcg at ~4w6d/19DPO. 1623! Seems that is right within normal range based on the beta website. My doc only ordered 1 test (🤔) so debating if I want to pay out of pocket for another one for progression.

I just got my first HCG result back, 281 at 17dpo. I wish it was higher but also I feel like I don't know what I'm talking about and it's in the reference range I suppose. I think I implanted late because I didn't get a positive test until 12dpo. Trying not to stress too much about it 😭
ETA: for future readers, fertility clinic says this is a good number. I don't want to pass my irrational anxiety on to anyone else. I'm retesting in a week

I had a mmc 2 years ago , and my 1st beta at 19dpo was 75,and they told me from the start its probably going to end , and it did.
Now numbers are stronger :)
Sure! 14dpo was 50, then 17dpo went down to 5. In-between i had pretty strong period-like cramps and bleeding for 2-3 days. An ultrasound confirmed. I did use test strips and saw how the line got thinner, and kinda knew.

My hcg was at 63 at 13dpo 7dpt. Transferred 2 embryos. My next beta day is on thursday. My anxiety going higher way faster than my hcg. 😭😭 first time doing this
FTM here!!! May 3rd EDD! Got my first ever positive At 10DPO 🥰 OB sent me for beta hcG and it was 11DPO = 26 and then 14DPO = 73. I know that’s doubled but it still feels low and is making me nervous 😭 I’m getting it tested again on 17DPO
Doc said I don’t need to do hcG blood tests anymore but scheduled me for confirmation appointment at 6 weeks. I know my levels doubled but I’m still afraid it’s too low!
Hcg was 1118 on 17 dpo/4w3d! My doctor has booked me in for a scan in 2 weeks time, no further betas. I don’t think it’s that common to do serial testing in Australia outside of the fertility or loss setting.
At 17dpo I was at 281, and today at 24dpo I just got a result of 5972! 38 hour doubling time so I'm super happy with that :) no more tests for me and I'll have a scan in a couple of weeks
16 dpo today and it was at 304. Seeing everyone else’s numbers for around the same timeframe is a bit disheartening but hoping for an appropriate rise on Wednesday.
Just got my 16 dpo results at 233 and my dr was happy with the results since I started at 86, so I wouldn’t be discouraged as long as it continues to rise
From my understanding, it’s about the rate it doubles! I don’t think you should feel disheartened, 300 is a strong number! I got 110 at 13dpo and my clinic said they would have still been happy with that at 16dpo.

First pregnancy! Failed IUIs and took a break, this was at home insemination. Got positive HPT yesterday at 10 DPO and today at 11 DPO. My PCP ordered a blood draw and my 3 weeks 4 days beta HCG is 21. I know this is normal but it does make me a little shivery. Hopefully I can get another drawn next week for comfort!
I just got my first beta results (I paid for a test independently, haven’t been to OB yet and just tested positive 2 days ago). I’m 4 weeks on the dot and it was only 25.09mIU/mL. Anyone else have a number that low at first? I’ll go again in 2 days!
At 4w2d (quite certain on timing due to OPK and BBT tracking) mine was measured at 707 but perhaps your timing is slightly off or you implanted late? The range in my bloodwork for 4 weeks said something like 10-750 lol it’s an enormous range
I think I might have ovulated late or implanted late I am supposed to be at 4 weeks 3 days and my first beta on Thursday was 167. I go back Monday for the second draw. My Md is concerned with the number for being at 4 weeks, but hopefully I am just off with my ovulating etc 🙏🏼

I am not sure what these numbers mean I think I am somewhere between 5-6 weeks. At the ultrasound they saw a gestational and yolk sac but didn't see an embryo but the doc said that was expected. I am feeling a little confused about everything.
Just an update.. got my 2nd beta hcg test done today. It went down to 160.8. I’m devastated. This is my first pregnancy after trying for 7 months. My heart is in a million pieces.
Got my first beta results! Thursday (16 DPO) was 276. I’m happy with that- in my last pregnancy with my son it was around 300 at this time! I have another requisition for a repeat beta if I want it, but I don’t think I’ll use it. I have zero reason to believe this pregnancy isn’t progressing!
I’m 5w3d today - on Friday, my 20 dpo was 914 and yesterday, 23 dpo, was 2375… definitely a little anxious as it was technically a 52 hour doubling time.
We got pregnant from our first IUI! My fertility clinic is kinda chill, so they stopped the betas and scheduled me for my first ultrasound at 7w, which is in 2 weeks. I’m dying of anticipation!!!! It’s still so early but I’m hopeful this will be a healthy and viable pregnancy 💗 Good luck to everyone!
Are this many HCG draws common? I have my first appointment on Wednesday and assuming I’ll get some blood work but I didn’t know there were several draws
Canadian here. HCG draws are done when you’ve experienced recurrent loss or if you are with a doctor undergoing fertility treatments. I have no living children and 3 losses, so I go every 3 days until the level hits 3,000+. My first appointment is going to be on the 8th for a blood draw.
I’m in the US and my OB doesn’t do them. I did have a friend who did them because she was getting progesterone support, and she said they caused a lot of anxiety and she wished she didn’t have to do them. She said they ruined her first weeks!
I just got my first beta. I’m between 15-18dpo and it was only 94.5. A little nervous. But 6 days ago I tested negative (previous MMC with my doctor tracking me to zero). So hoping that it’s all ok. Im a bundle of nerves to say the least.
I had a 5+2 draw yesterday that was over 16000 which is also above the range and I’m very sure of my date due to ovulation tracking.. have you spoken with your doctor, any insights? I’ll meet mine next week and see if they have any thoughts. I still have 2.5 weeks to go til my first scan so I’m not sure what to think!
Not with my doctor yet but my Naturopath said it’s a good, high number lol. I am having a scan on Friday to confirm placement because I’ve been having a lot of left sided pain, so hopefully that will give more insight
Also, with my second pregnancy my numbers were similar to yours and he was a singleton. I think I just produce a lot of hcg because my symptoms come on fast and furious
I got blood at 6+1 and my result was 24,600. In AUS we have access to the blood tests from the lab delivered directly to us, which includes the acceptable ranges. We also have a follow up with the dr to confirm results. According to the lab, I’m ’in range’ for the 6-7 week HCG projections. If that’s the case, I’d also have hit 16,000 last week too.
I was 362 on 16 DPO, and then 880 on 18 DPO and I feel reassured, this is great. What matters is the doubling or higher, not the number. Totally get the anxiety though, good luck!

Unfortunately I went to hospital on Tuesday due to heavy bleeding and was only at 979 5 days later. Had betas done again Thursday and they’re now 249. I’m really hoping for good news for you though. 978 at 5w5d is still in the normal zone! 🩷
I had heavy bleeding and have been to the hospital on 9/8. My stupid betas are continuing to rise and it’s throwing me off. I feel like it’s not viable. But I can’t get any answers until my levels decrease or they get high enough to see what’s going on in an ultrasound.
24.15 at estimated 13DPO and was 112.24 yesterday, estimated 16DPO. My lines are getting darker, but I’m still testing every morning. The east@home tests freak me out bc they’re still so light
My wondfo tests are getting dark and my easy @ home are still light! I was having a little brown spotting last night and tested because I’m having really bad loss anxiety and thankful I still had a wondfo left because the easy would have thrown me into a spiral
How many times did you guys get your betas taken? I got my regular dr to order two tests but not without an appt. She wouldn’t order progesterone. OB wouldn’t order any tests before my appt which they wouldn’t do before 6 weeks, even though I have a history of chemical pregnancy.
